ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA: A woman from Pennsylvania was charged with animal cruelty for leaving her French Bulldog at a Pittsburgh airport and flying to Mexico for a vacation, police reportedly said.

Allison Gaiser, 44, allegedly abandoned the seven-year-old dog in a stroller on August 4 because she “didn’t have a crate for the pet”.

How was the dog found?

The dog was found near a short-term parking lot at Pittsburgh International Airport by officers who identified Gaiser through the dog’s microchip, the New York Post reported.

However, the poor pup wasn't hurt during the time it was lost.

He, as per the police, was cared for at the Animal Friends shelter and has since found a temporary home.

What are the charges Allison Gaiser is facing?

Gaiser faces a misdemeanour count of animal cruelty and other violations, according to the Allegheny County Police.

“The dog is doing well and is still being fostered,” police said in a post on Facebook.

They wrote, “Investigators determined Gaiser intentionally abandoned the dog near short-term parking before boarding a plane to a resort destination in Mexico.”

Why wasn't Allison Gaiser given a boarding pass for her pet?

Gaiser had tried to initially convince the airline staff to grant her a boarding pass for the dog as an emotional support pet but failed as the employees refused to comply.

Gaiser had tried to get a boarding pass for the dog as an emotional support pet but was denied, officials said. So instead of getting a ticket, she left the pooch to fend for herself and flew off for the vacation.

The Frenchie was ultimately transported to the Animal Friends shelter and kept on wair for foster care.

“Animal Friends was notified of a case involving suspected abandonment at the airport through the Allegheny County Dog Warden and the dog involved was admitted into our care,” the shelter said in a statement seen by CBS News earlier.

What are the charges and fines for abandoning a pet in Pennsylvania?

Anyone convicted of abandoning or attempting to abandon a dog in the state of Pennsylvania can face a maximum fine of up to $1,000.

Earlier, a German Shepard was left behind by its owner at San Francisco International Airport who flew to New York without the dog.

The owner did not have the required papers to take the dog on the flight, because the dog came from a country with a high risk of rabies, according to the CDC.

The dog was taken to San Francisco SPCA where it received more than 35 adoption applications.

The lucky person who got to adopt the dog was Captain William Dale, a United Airlines pilot with seven years of experience. He welcomed the dog into his home and gave it a new life.
