THORNDALE, PENNSYLVANIA: A Pennsylvania couple has been charged after the death of their four-year-old son because of apparent exposure to fentanyl. It has been said that Jason and Amanda Moore’s carelessness allegedly took the life of their child last year.

Jason, 36, and Amanda, 35, are now facing multiple charges, which include involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of children, and recklessly endangering another person, a statement from Chester County District Attorney read. The pair’s bail amount has been “set at $250,000.00 10% each, and both were remanded to Chester County Prison.”

What happened to Jason and Amanda Moore’s son?

The tragic incident reportedly happened on November 29, 2022, when both the accused went to work early morning after leaving the unidentified victim and a three-year-old under the care of a 13-year-old.

When the four-year-old did not wake up, the 13-year-old child called Jason before the Caln Township Police Department arrived at the scene. The little boy was then transferred to Children’s Hospital (CHOP) in King of Prussia but he was pronounced dead there.

During the probe, it was found that the child was not well the night before his death. His parents have given him “Tylenol and a bath before he went to bed”. However, the child woke up “only once at 4 am, before returning to sleep on the couch. The victim never moved from the spot.”

Also, it was discovered that the victim had a lollipop before his death, which eventually tested “positive for trace amounts of fentanyl.”

What investigators found after the death of Jason and Amanda Moore’s son?

The Chester County District Attorney’s statement noted, “On January 18, 2023, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office reported that toxicology testing performed on the victim confirmed the presence of fentanyl in his body.”

“It was later confirmed that fentanyl was found in the victim’s cardiac blood and brain tissue. The cause of death was determined to be Homicide via Fentanyl Toxicity,” it stated.

What did Jason and Amanda Moore do

The Chester County District Attorney’s statement alleged that Jason “used fentanyl in the residence where the victim had died”. Besides, hair samples of both the suspects were taken and it was determined that the mother had also taken “fentanyl, amphetamine, and methamphetamine.”

“On April 6, 2023, detectives learned that Jason Moore cleaned up empty baggies and other drug paraphernalia prior to calling 911. They also discovered that there were empty wrappers and baggies containing fentanyl that fell to the ground that the victim could have consumed,” the official release added.

DA Deb Ryan calls it ‘a devastating tragedy’

District Attorney Deb Ryan mentioned in the statement, “This is a devastating tragedy due to the defendants’ complete failure as parents.”

Ryan continued, “By bringing deadly drugs into their home they exposed their 4-year-old to this poison resulting in this innocent child’s death. They failed to meet even their most basic duties of responsibility and care.”

“We will work tirelessly to ensure justice for the child victim,” the DA added.
