BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: The popular competition show ‘The Challenge’ is back with a new season. Season 38 ‘Ride or Dies’ of the MTV show brings a new format to the game that tests friendships while it fuels rivalries, cutthroat competition, and brutal eliminations. This survival game show also gives its winner a chance to earn the title of the show and a large cash prize of $1,000,000. ‘The Challenge’ boasts contestants from many reality TV shows who compete for the grand prize.

Contestants from reality shows such as ‘Big Brother’ and ‘Love Island USA’ all get cast as participants on the show and are usually teamed up in pairs of two. It is also not uncommon for the show to cast winners of previous seasons in new seasons. And usually, this is acceptable to other participants. But that doesn’t seem to be the case this time. When rumours spread that three-time winner Cara Maria Sorbello and five-time champ CT Tamburello were to join Season 38 of ‘The Challenge’ together, many contestants threatened to walk out.

Why did Season 38 'Ride or Dies' contestants threaten to quit?

In Episode 5, three pairs of “heavy hitters” joined the original cast of ‘Ride or Dies’. These players are Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio and Nany González, Aneesa Ferreira and Jordan Wiseley, and Darrell Taylor and Veronica Portillo. During the ‘MTV Official Challenge’ podcast, the players joked about the endless list of winners joining the cast and speculated that the new players to join would be the veterans Cara Maria Sorbello and CT Tamburello. But when other players on the show heard this, there was a huge backlash as many threatened to “quit.” According to the cast of ‘Ride or Dies’, they did not want these two players, especially CT, because he is willing to “kill anyone”. Aneesa later confirmed that the news was only a joke and that she and Veronica had only wanted to spread a rumour.

Who is three-time winner Cara Maria Sorbello?

Cara Maria Sorbello made her debut on the ‘Challenge: Fresh Meat’ and has won seasons ‘Battle Of The Bloodlines’, ‘Champs vs Pros’ and ‘Vendettas’. Cara was also among the finalists in seven other seasons, including ‘Cutthroat’, ‘Rivals’ and ‘Final Reconing’. Currently, she’s not competing on ‘The Challenge’ but has expressed a desire to be back on the show. Her boyfriend, Paulie Calafiore, is one of the contestants on the show and possibly the only one who won't quit if Cara does join ‘Ride or Dies’. She resides in Montana and creates "armor up!" workout videos on social media. She also holds the record for the most elimination wins by a female contestant, with 13 wins.

Who is five-time winner CT Tamburello?

Chris 'CT' Tamburello has won five seasons of ‘The Challenge’ including, ‘Rivals 2’, ‘Invasion of the Champions’, ‘Champs vs Stars’, ‘Champs vs Stars 2’, ‘War of the Worlds 2’, and ‘Double Agents’, and was a finalist in the seasons ‘The Inferno’, ‘The Inferno 2’, ‘The Gauntlet 3’, ‘Battle of the Exes’, and ‘Dirty 30’. CT was also involved in a physical altercation with another contestant and is well known to be brutal. His OTT aggressive attitude is the reason why participants of Season 38 flipped on hearing the 'rumor' about him joining the show this season. He is also known to have been engaged in a nasty fight with one of the contestants, Adam King.
