SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA: Sherry Paipini, the woman jailed for faking her disappearance and lying to the police, is reportedly living in community confinement ahead of her projected release date.

Papini was transferred out of the satellite camp next to FCI Victorville Medium I last week, according to a Bureau of Prisons representative who spoke to TMZ.

She is now housed in a facility under the control of the BOP's Sacramento Residential Reentry Management Office.

Why has Sherri Papini been transferred to community confinement?

Community confinement typically entails the prisoner serving their remaining time at home or in a halfway house, but the BOP representative would not elaborate on Papini's circumstances.

According to reports, her projected release date has been moved up to the end of October from May 2024, which means she has got six months off her sentence.

When did Sherri Papini disappear?

Papini made national headlines after going missing in 2016, only to be discovered weeks later on Thanksgiving about 150 miles from her home in Northern California.

She claimed that two Hispanic women kidnapped her at gunpoint at the time.

Papini's husband Keith reported her missing after she failed to return home from work, prompting searchers to look for her, per TMZ.

Papini's appealed to the public for any information about her whereabouts. Her sister, Sheila Koester, told the Ventura Star at that time, "She was out for a run. She wouldn't leave her babies."

She was discovered bound and gagged on the side of Interstate 5, about 150 miles from her home. Her family had set up a GoFundMe page hoping it would help her return, per The Sun.

A mysterious donor initially promised a $50,000 ransom for Papini's safe return, which was later increased to $100,000. However the offer was dropped the day before cops found her.

Papini was arrested and charged with lying to FBI agents about the entire situation. They said she was actually living with an ex-boyfriend at the time of her "disappearance."

She ultimately entered a guilty plea in 2022 and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
