LINCOLN COUNTY, COLORADO: Convicted pedophile Gary Oliva, who confessed to killing JonBenet Ramsey, was reportedly found with shrines and more than 300 images of the six-year-old slain pageant queen on his phone. The 59-year-old Oliva, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence in a Colorado prison, was detained in Boulder, Colorado, in June 2016 for possessing child pornography.

For several years prior to his arrest, Oliva was a suspect in the murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey, who was discovered battered and tied in the basement of her family's house on December 26, 1996. At the time, he came under the radar after officials found that he had links to a residence just 13 houses away from the Ramseys, and he went to attend a candlelight vigil held for the girl following her tragic and horrible murder. Michael Vail, a former classmate of Oliva's, said that he contacted him on the day JonBenet was discovered dead and sobbed through the call, saying, "I hurt a little girl." In 2019, Oliva wrote a string of strange and unsettling letters to Vail in which he claimed to have accidentally killed the slain pageant queen.

Where is Gary Oliva now?

Oliva is currently housed at the Limon Correctional Facility in Colorado, serving a 10-year sentence for child pornography. The pedophile has not been charged for Ramsey’s murder but he has a lengthy criminal history that includes sexually abusing a seven-year-old girl and attempting to murder his mother. His most recent arrest occurred on June 6, 2016, when he was discovered using public WiFi in Boulder to transfer pictures of child sex abuse to his personal Gmail account. Investigators caught Oliva, beside the railroad track and seized his phone and other personal stuff.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Sun, police recovered approximately 695 images depicting child pornography on his phone. There were also 335 images of and related to JonBenet. The report states that "some were regular photographs of her probably found online." "Of those photographs, 19 were images of JonBenet's autopsy like from photographs that had previously leaked to the press in years past. There were also many photographs of what appear to be shrines to JonBenet Ramsey. It is unknown where these shrines are located or if they were created by Oliva or not,” the report read further.

Pictures on Oliva’s phone showed scenes of cannibalism and torture

Investigators also discovered that multiple videos honoring Ramsey were stored on Oliva's phone, along with contacts that included many members of the Ramsey family. According to the report, several more photographs showed scenes of cannibalism, torture, and desecration of dead bodies. Numerous pictures of children sobbing or acting afraid had been stored on his phone, and hundreds of pictures purported to show cannibalism and death had been deleted. In his notebook, Oliva had created many collages that blended pictures of semi-naked or bathing-suit-clad girls with photos of child pornography.

Investigators discovered a variety of items in his rucksack, including "eight magazines of interest." "[Seven] of the magazines were American Girl magazines and featured photographs of young prepubescent or early pubescent girls,” the affidavit reads, adding, "The other magazine was a skating magazine with a young female approximately 11 to 12 years old on the front cover. Due to the nature of this case and Oliva's history of sexual assault on a child, as well as my training and experience, [...] people with pedophilic impulses generally will use those types of magazines for the purposes of sexual gratification."
