SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: The man accused of hitting Nancy Pelosi's husband Paul Pelosi with a hammer characterized himself as a patriot working to overthrow tyranny in a peculiar manner. On Friday, David DePape called a local Fox news station in California from jail and delivered an odd and terrifying speech, that he described as an "important message" following the release of police body camera footage of his attack.

According to Amber Lee of KTVU, DePape, 42, who is accused of assault, elder abuse, and attempted murder, called her and said, "Now that you have all seen the bodycam footage, I have an important message for everyone in America: You're welcome." He further apologized for not criticizing more democrats and referred to himself as a patriot working to end tyranny.

Where is David DePape now?

DePape is currently being held at California's San Francisco County Jail on attempted murder-related charges. He entered a not-guilty plea. DePape is charged with kidnapping, attempted murder, and elder abuse in addition to kidnapping. His next court date is scheduled for February 23.

After his arrest last year, KTVU's Amber Lee first contacted him. Just about five and a half minutes were spent talking. The reporter was not permitted to refute his claims or pose any queries. DePape claimed he didn't want to endanger his legal position.

“Liberty isn’t dying, it’s being killed systematically and deliberately,” DePape said. “The people killing it have names and addresses, so I got their names and addresses so I could pay them a little visit … have a heart-to-heart chat about their bad behavior.” He added, “I want to apologize to everyone. I messed up. What I did was really bad. I’m so sorry I didn’t get more of them. It’s my own fault. No one else is to blame. I should have come better prepared," reported The New York Post.

Fox News reported that DePape also alleged to have a website with over 300 pages and "a lot more to say," and that he spent most of his time exposing government corruption online. The website had been taken down by officials as per DePape. “I’m in the process of trying to set up a new website out of the reach of tyrannically global racists and their internet censors,” he said.

DePape's hammer attack on Paul Pelosi

DePape, 42, is accused of bursting into the Pelosis' San Francisco house in the middle of the night in October 2022 and asking to speak with the US House Speaker at the time Nancy Pelosi. In his interrogation with the authorities later, he eventually confessed to detectives about his intentions to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage and smash her kneecaps. However, Nancy was in Washington, DC at the time, and Paul Pelosi, 82, was the purported victim of DePape's hammer attack, as reported by Buzz Feed News.

When the police came, DePape had struck Paul so hard that he needed surgery to fix a fractured skull. Paul was able to call 911 from the restroom. According to the police, DePape has previously expressed his interest in kidnapping other democrats, such as Tom Hanks, Hunter Biden, and California Governor Gavin Newsom. DePape is of the opinion that the 2020 election was rigged.
