'Jennifer's Body' receives an exciting update with Oscar-winning writer as Megan Fox eyes big return
Megan Fox's Jennifer Check is set to stack up the body count in the sequel to the 2009 hit horror-comedy 'Jennifer's Body.' The second instalment is in development with Oscar-winner Diablo Cody writing the script. The film follows Fox as a high school cheerleader who becomes possessed by a demonic spirit and begins preying on her male classmates. As the deaths rise, her best friend Anita 'Needy' Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried) must decide whether she can stop the gore from escalating.
Cody spoke about the script during a live panel in Los Angeles earlier this weekend. Furthermore, Dread Central added that she was in the middle of penning the script. The report also added that both Fox and Seyfried were keen to return. These updates come on the back of Seyfried telling Variety last year that a sequel was in the works, with Mason Novick producing alongside Jason Reitman and Daniel Dubiecki.
The first film ends with Fox's character perishing, raising the question of how the actress would return. At the time of writing, there is nothing about the plotline, though the new film could focus on Seyfried's character and Fox's return in a flashback. On their career front, Fox is reviving her career, while Seyfried is fresh from the success of 'The Housemaid' alongside Sydney Sweeney. A reunion, coupled with a solid script, could help add to their already impressive CVs.
It is worth noting that 'Jennifer's Body' was neither a critical nor a commercial success. It made $31.6 million against its $16 million production budget. Critics panned the film with Rotten Tomatoes' consensus reading, "Jennifer's Body features occasionally clever dialogue, but the horror/comic premise fails to be either funny or scary enough to satisfy." Seyfriend will next be seen in Tim Nelson's prison thriller, 'The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd,' while Fox's last project was a voiceover role in 'Five Nights at Freddy's 2'. The 39-year-old was last seen in the TV series, 'Overcompensating' as herself. Her last major project was playing an artificially intelligent gynoid in S.K. Dale's sci-fi thriller, 'Subservience'. For now, much about 'Jennifer's Body 2' is up in the air, but a potential link-up and an improved plot may see the sequel fare better than the previous film. With the script underway, it's safe to say it will be some more time before we see any major updates on the storyline for 'Jennifer's Body 2.'
