CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA: NBC's longest-running weekly American television TV series, 'Dateline NBC' Season 32 Episode 39 titled 'If These Walls Could Talk', is scheduled to premiere on Friday, May 3, at 9 pm ET on NBC.

In a seemingly idyllic family setting, tragedy struck with the shocking murder of Susann Sills, a mother of twins, at the hands of her own husband, Eric Scott Sills in 2016. The case captivated public attention as details unfolded about the meticulously planned crime and the unraveling of a seemingly perfect facade.

Eric Sills, a fertility doctor, was convicted of murdering his wife, staging the scene to look like an accident, and then attempting to cover his tracks. The trial shed light on the toxic dynamics within the Sills' marriage, including text messages revealing deep strains and allegations of a topless photo posted online that allegedly fueled the fatal conflict.

'Dateline NBC' new episode delves deeper into the case, as Andrea Canning reports this friday with more details on the gruel case.

Who was Susan Sills?

Susann Sills was a 45-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in November 2016. She was a mother of twins and a co-founder of the Center for Advanced Genetics, a fertility clinic in Carlsbad, California. Susann was born in Philadelphia and later attended George Mason University before earning her MBA in International Studies from the University of Miami in 2000.

In her professional life, Susann was dedicated to helping others as she worked in the field of fertility treatment. Alongside her husband, Eric Scott Sills, she played a significant role in establishing and operating the fertility clinic they co-founded. Their clinic aimed to provide hope and assistance to couples struggling with infertility, offering services such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and surrogacy.

However, Susann's life was cut short under tragic circumstances. She was found dead at the bottom of the stairs in her family home, leading to her husband being charged and ultimately convicted of her murder. The case received significant attention due to the shocking nature of the crime and the involvement of a prominent figure in the medical community.

Why did Dr Eric Scott Sills kill Susann Sills

The motive behind Dr Eric Scott Sills killing his wife, Susann Sills, is not definitively known, but prosecutors presented evidence suggesting potential reasons during the trial.

One significant point of contention between the couple was Susann's posting of a topless photo online after she lost a bet. Prosecutors alleged that this photo became a source of conflict in their marriage and may have contributed to the tension between them.

Text messages exchanged between the couple revealed strains in their relationship, with Susann expressing feelings of being trapped and suffocated. "I will never be free, ever," Susann wrote in one text message. "You are killing me, don’t you see? ... I just want out."

The prosecutors suggested that the topless photo may have been a trigger for Eric Scott Sills, leading to a violent altercation or argument that ultimately resulted in Susann's death.

Additionally, during the trial, Sills' defense team argued that Susann may have lost her footing on the stairs due to being malnourished and disoriented from not eating for several days and having consumed Valium and the pain medication tramadol. They claimed that her fall down the stairs was accidental rather than intentional.

Ultimately, the exact motive behind Susann Sills' murder remains unclear, and only Eric Scott Sills knows the true reasons for his actions. In December, he received his sentence: 15 years to life in prison.
