'Beauty In Black’ finally drops Season 2 Part 2 trailer and Mallory is ready to strike back
It's Kimmie vs Mallory in Tyler Perry's 'Beauty in Black' Season 2 Part 2. Earlier today, Netflix released the full-length trailer of the hit drama's second instalment. Safe to say, the clip all but confirms Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams) will lock horns with Mallory (Crystle Stewart).
"You don’t know everything. What I have to share with you will make you blow that lace front clean off your head," Kimmie says at the end of the trailer, and Mallory's expression of 'bring it on' says it all. The other part of the trailer focuses on Jules (Charles Malik Whitfield) gunning for revenge against the person who put his son in a coma. Olivia (Debbi Morgan) is seen fending off a new enemy.
The first part of Season 2 saw Kimmie marrying her former client, Horace Bellarie (Ricco Ross). This sees her named as the head of his profitable hair-care company. Shrewd as she's portrayed, Kimmie puts her business ideas into motion. Her biggest challenge comes in the form of Stewart's Mallory, Roy's (Julian Horton) wife, who ran the business before Kimmie takes over. The dethroning and the ensuing power struggle reach a head in the second season's part two. The official logline of Season 2 reads, "The ruthless, backstabbing family behind a beauty brand — and an underground trafficking ring — will face a reckoning. Kimmie, the once-unassuming sex worker in their employ, becomes an unstoppable force and is now the one calling the shots after inheriting sole ownership of the family business."
The returning cast includes Ricco Ross as Horace, Steven G. Norfleet as Charles, Terrell Carter as Varney, Richard Lawson as Norman, Xavier Smalls as Angel, Julian Horton as Roy, and Bryan Tanaka as Officer Alex. The guest stars see Bailey Tippen, Randall J. Bacon, Greg Clarkson, Ace Small, George Middlebrook, Kajanee Smith, Philemon Chambers, Aria Celeste Castillo, Rodrigo Aburto, Jasmine Burke, and Phylicía Lloyd. Perry takes the three-pronged role as creator, writer, and executive producer. Angi Bones and Tony Strickland serve as producers.
Speaking to Tudum, Williams detailed her character Kimmie's approach in the upcoming instalment. "Kimmie wants to be seen as legitimate. She is done proving she belongs, and she’s claiming her place. Doubt definitely fuels her. The difference now is that she understands the cost of power, and she confidently chooses it anyway."
In the same interview, Stewart also teased a shift in the rivalry. "Survival starts to matter more than rivalry. There’s a shift where they begin to recognize that their greatest threat might not be each other," she said. "That doesn’t mean trust comes easily, but there is a mutual understanding that changes the game. It’s less about who wears the crown and more about who makes it outstanding."
Season 1 opened to positive acclaim, and the success of the debut run led Netflix to renew the show for a third season well before Season 2's release. For now, the fans' focus will be on the power struggle between the two women. All eight episodes of 'Black is Beautiful' Season 2 Part 2 will arrive on Netflix on March 19.
