New 'Pitt' Season 2 episode hints at a slow-burn workplace romance, and shippers are taking note
Throughout its previous episodes, 'The Pitt' has depicted the emergency room at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center as a chaotic environment where rapid decision-making often determines the thin line between life and death. For Dr. Robby, the attending doctor, and other medical professionals under his care, a regular shift comprises almost fifteen grueling hours looking after patients. It is only fair that such a hectic workplace brings together the people who work day in and day out, forging a strong bond among them, sometimes turning into romantic relationships.
ScreenRant reports that the recently aired second episode from 'The Pitt' Season 2 might finally give expression to a much-anticipated union between Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa 'Mel' King and Patrick Ball's Dr. Frank Langdon. Given the highly structured pattern of the R. Scott Gemmill show that takes a close look at the everyday struggles of trauma ward medical professionals through the hours of their daily shift, it is unlikely that a full-blown romantic relationship would ever take centre stage. However, that doesn't mean that Mel and Langdon can't find comfort in their shared moments.
The second episode saw Langdon coming in to comfort Mel in a way that mirrored the latter's gesture from the debut season. When Mel was informed that she would have to testify in court, she started having a panic attack. Langdon soon grasped the gravity of the situation, turned off the lights in Mel's room before leaving her to herself, saying that the hospital could at times get too noisy. This is reminiscent of Mel's own act of helping out a neurodivergent patient on the debut season, when she turned off the lights in his room and drew the curtains to make him feel less overwhelmed, as per Collider.
The gesture from Langdon goes on to prove that following his time spent in rehab overcoming addiction, he is on his way to becoming a changed man. This was further evident when he apologized to Mel for his former history of addiction. He also cares deeply about Mel to make sure that her neurodivergence doesn't get in the way of her performing her medical duties. On the other hand, Mel is present in the ongoing season with a medical malpractice lawsuit, and the weight of the trials weighs heavily on her. It is mainly with Langdon that she can share her few moments of relief and respite.
Thus, the next logical step for the show would be to bring Langdon and Mel closer to each other in a way that develops their budding relationship to the next threshold. While they might not exactly confess their love for each other and hit it off right away on the first day of Langdon's return from his ten-month hiatus, one can hope for more adversities at the ER to strengthen their bond. 'The Pitt' Season 2 airs new episodes every Thursday on HBO Max.
