'The Rookie' Season 8 episode 16 recap: Nolan, Glasser face high-stakes turn— everything that transpired
Contains spoilers for 'The Rookie' Season 8 Episode 16
'The Rookie' Season 8 continues its sizzling run. Episode 16, titled 'Out of Time,' sets the tone for the remaining two episodes of the season. After a fantastic episode 15, the chapter focuses on two major storylines — Monica (Bridget Regan), whose intentions remain unclear as she works on both sides with the villains and the FBI, and Glasser (Seth Gable), whose return puts the other team members at risk. By now, it is clear that Monica is "playing both sides," while Glasser's actions directly affect Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Nyla (Mekia Cox). The major development occurs when an injured Glasser forces the team that arrested him to protect him, leading Nolan to take a bullet for him.
The Glasser storyline continues to delve deeper when his custody hearing comes up in court. His wife, Miranda (Hannah Barefoot), isn't happy to see him, as she fears that she could lose the custody battle. She also hopes the shooting against Glasser could be used against him, denting his custodial chances. At the other end, Nyla's investigation on the possible suspects linked to Glasser's shooting hits a dead end. In court, Glasser's emotional drama culminates in his wife's panic, despite Nolan's fervent attempts to calm her. He reminds her not to give in to the psychological game. The final moments of the episode reveal Glasser's attacker to be Lance Thomas, whose father was killed by the former. Thomas is out for revenge, and he seizes another opportunity to kill him at the courthouse. In the process, Nolan takes a bullet when Lance finally comes face-to-face with Glasser after a lengthy chase.
The final dramatic turn comes with Miranda revealed to have left town. The running effectively suggests that she was not giving custody of the kids to a man who has the blood of eight dead people on his hands. As for Monica, the double-agent storyline continues to take center stage. However, the episode also hints at how it might set up her exit from the show. Her part of the story in the episode ends with a name, "Cooper Johnson," written on the car, which, at the time of writing, is unclear to her. For now, 'The Rookie' Season 8 is inching toward an explosive finale. Only time will tell what the next twist will be. The series drops new episodes weekly on Monday nights at 10 pm ET on ABC.
