'Sullivan's Crossing' Season 4 episode 1 recap: Maggie forced to confront her past and a complicated return
Season 4 of 'Sullivan's Crossing' is finally here and picks up right away from where the previously aired third season had left off. Towards the end of Season 3, Morgan Kohan's Maggie and Chad Michael Murray's Cal were in a pleasant phase of their relationship. However, the status quo was rudely disrupted when Maggie's ex-husband, Liam, visited them unannounced. On the other hand, Sully has left for a trip to Ireland, and it seems unlikely that he shall ever return to the outpost.
Season 4's premiere episode, titled 'Curveballs,' finds Maggie walking up in bed with Liam by her side. The intimate scene suggests that the two have rekindled their old flame. When Liam asks for another chance, Maggie kisses him. Just about when one starts to wonder where exactly Cal fits into all of this, the episode drops the revelation that Maggie had been dreaming after all. When she actually does wake up, she doesn't reveal the contents of her dream to Cal, who stands by her with a cup of coffee. Maggie just expresses her concern: in Sully's absence, she feels overwhelmed at the outpost. She also confesses to Cal that she isn't sure why Liam has returned to her, especially since she had filed for the annulment of their marriage.
Moving on, Maggie visits Liam, and the latter expresses his plans to relocate to Europe. Liam informs Maggie that their annulment process didn't go through and that they're still legally married under European law. Liam also states that he came back to her to pick up the annulment papers so he could get his travel visa. One might never be sure whether this is actually Liam's only reason for returning, or whether he wishes to have Maggie back in his life. Only time will tell. Elsewhere, Maggie informs Cal about Liam's request for the annulment documents, but she isn't sure whether she has them and might need to consult her lawyers. When Cal arrives at the restaurant, he finds Liam sharing one of his engaging travel stories with the rest of the group. The two briefly share a cordial interaction.
While searching for the papers, Maggie comes across an old letter she wrote to Liam, which brings back several memories. Liam and Cal then went on to have an intense wood-chopping competition, in which neither seemed to back down. Maggie wasn't impressed at all and left the scene earlier, owing to her disregard for their feelings of mutual jealousy. By the end of the episode, Maggie's lawyers reveal that she is actually still legally married to Liam, meaning that he is here to stay. 'Sullivan's Crossing' airs new episodes on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
