LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: Katherine Ramsland, a forensic psychologist who once taught the Idaho quadruple murder suspect Bryan Kohberger at DeSales University, has stated she is "not shocked" about Rex Heuermann's arrest in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders.

The 59-year-old New York-based architect who is a married father-of-two children was arrested last Thursday, July 13, after he was suspected of killing Amber Costello, 27, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, and Megan Waterman, 22. Heuermann is also considered the prime suspect in the murder of 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes. The suspect has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder in the first degree and three counts of murder in the second degree, reported Newsweek.

What did Bryan Kohberger's teacher say of Rex Heuermann?

Ramsland, the serial killer expert, stated she was not shocked to learn of Heuermann having a respectable job and is known to be a family man as his lawyer Michael Brown claimed his client is a "hardworking" licensed architect who has no prior criminal past. "He is a loving husband to his wife of over 25 years and an involved and dedicated father to his daughter and stepson... there is nothing about Mr Heuermann that would suggest that he is involved in these incidents," Brown added.

Speaking to NewsNation, Ramsland shared what she thought of Heuermann's well-intentioned persona and said she is "not surprised at the kind of person that we're looking at," and added, "More and more, we're seeing people who are accomplished or holding jobs who have families and they still are doing this kind of thing."

Ramsland further talked about how serial killers hide their true nature. "They have to keep it secret because they know they won't be able to continue to do it in society. So they learn, they practice and they learn how to pass as a normal person while they're also doing things like rape or murder," she said, reported the outlet.

Who is Katherine Ramsland?

According to The Great Courses, Ramsland has been honored as a distinguished alumna by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Northern Arizona University. She has consulted for crime dramas 'Bones', 'CSI, and 'The Alienist' and has also appeared in more than 200 crime documentaries and shows. Ramsland who has written more than 1,500 articles has also authored 68 books, including 'The Psychology of Death Investigations', 'How to Catch a Killer', and 'The Mind of a Murderer', according to DeSales University.
