LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Shadow and Bone' are back with a jaw-dropping Season 2. After a nearly two-year-long hiatus, the second season of 'Shadow and Bone' had hit Netflix on March 16. All eight episodes of the new season will drop at once, with the premiere picking up shortly after the events of the Season 1 finale. Although the show’s first season was based on the first book in Leigh Bardugo’s 'Shadow and Bone' trilogy, the second season is adapted from both the second and third installments in the series, 'Siege and Storm' and 'Ruin and Rising,' according to showrunners Eric Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind. Season 2 has also once again incorporated characters and plot points from Six of Crows, the debut entry in a subsequent duology from Bardugo set in the same world. That means the viewers watched the continuation of Alina (Jessie Mei Li), Mal (Archie Renaux), and the Darkling’s (Ben Barnes) storyline, as well as those of the Crows—Kaz (Freddy Carter), Inej (Amita Suman), Jesper (Kit Young), and new addition Wylan (Jack Wolfe)—and estranged couple Nina (Danielle Galligan) and Matthias (Calahan Skogman).

A cloud of uncertainty

'Shadow and Bone's viewers have called on Netflix to renew the series for another season amid uncertainty over the show’s future. The fantasy series, adapted from books by Leigh Bardugo, has claimed the No 1 spot in Netflix’s “most watched chart”, usurping Penn Badgley's serial killer drama 'You'. Despite this, the series is yet to be renewed for a third run of episodes. In the past, Netflix has canceled a number of popular series after the two-season mark, such as 'Sense8' and 'Altered Carbon'. Furthermore, it was surprising 'Shadow and Bone's Season 2 exists at all, given all the similar YA-style shows Netflix has canceled. Off the top of our heads, Netflix has canceled: 'First Kill,' 'Cursed,' 'The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,' 'The Order,' 'Fate: The Winx Saga,' 'The Imperfects,' 'The Bastard Son and the Devil Himself,' 'Warrior Nun'.

'Well damn deserved'

Regardless, the writing remains strong of the series despite struggling a bit to merge so many characters and storylines into eight episodes. Fans went berserk after the news surfaced online. A fan said, "Its a pretty good show to be honest," while another added, "As it should be!!" A fan shared, "WELL damn Deservedddd. Hope a season 3 comes. I hope and pray for that shit." A fan tweeted, "The crows carried the show, Netflix should make that spin-off series focused only on Six of Crows," while another added, "Loved it, though the build up was a very slow."
