Wayne Stevens: Tributes pour in for man mauled to death by 'out of control' dog as pet owner charged
DERBYSHIRE, ENGLAND: A man who died after being brutally attacked by a dog has been officially identified. Derbyshire Constabulary has named the person Wayne Stevens, who lost his life in Derby on Saturday, April 22, 2023, due to a “dangerously out of control” dog.
As per reports, police officers arrived at a Cameron Road house in Derby at nearly six in the morning on Saturday following a report that stated a man had sustained severe injuries. However, the 51-year-old victim could not be saved. Soon after that, Gary Stevens, 53, was charged under the Dangerous Dogs Act since he is believed to be the owner of the animal.

‘Wayne sadly died after suffering injuries from a dog attack’
It has been reported that the suspect will be presented before the Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on Monday, April 24. Besides, the dog, which was reportedly involved in the death of Wayne, was put down by the cops. A statement by Derbyshire Constabulary posted on its Facebook page read, “The 53-year-old [Gary Stevens, of Cameron Road, Derby] has been charged with being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.”
“Formal identification has taken place, and the victim has been named as 51-year-old Wayne Stevens. Wayne sadly died after suffering injuries from a dog attack. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this time,” it further read. The statement further noted, “Please note that comments have been restricted at this time as court proceedings are active.”
‘Still can’t believe it’
Meanwhile, many of Wayne’s acquaintances and loved ones have expressed their grief after his death. Scott Stevens wrote on Facebook, “R.I.P big brother Wayne Stevens words can't explain the pain fam it's was only 4 days since we had a beer love you so much I hope you meet dad in heaven and work your problems out cuz your neighbors for eternity now so make peace ❤️😭😭.”
Julie Stevens shared, “Still can’t believe it, it feels like we’re in a nightmare can’t get my head round any of this RIP Wayne we will always love you brother 💔.” One person stated, "Still can't believe it think am still in a nightmare waiting to wake up." "I don’t know you or your family but couldn’t scroll by and not send my condolences..I am so sorry for your families tragic loss x," a user added.
‘I still haven't come to terms with what's happened’
This comes after a mother spoke up about her devastating loss due to a dog attack, which took the life of her 17-month-old daughter. Treysharn Bates from St Helens, Merseyside, lost her daughter Bella-Rae Birch on March 21, 2022. She reportedly said, “As a mother, losing a child is the worst thing that can ever happen, but watching a life be snatched away in such awful circumstances is soul-destroying.”
“I miss Bella-Rae every day and I still haven't come to terms with what's happened. I just think she's sleeping over at the nanny's house. I haven't accepted anything yet and I don't think I ever want to, but I have to stay strong for my little boy who still needs his mummy,” the grieving mom added.
