‘Vikings’ Season 6: Fans lay out their theories for final season with some even speculating Bjorn Ironside's death

As the final season of the epic saga nears its release date, fans have conjured up theories about the new Vikings chief, which, if proven right, can change our expectation of the show.

Though History channel’s epic series ‘Vikings’ will premiere its final season only on December 4, 2019, fans are already hyped up about what they can expect, and what the show has in store for us.

When Season 5 ended, we saw Bjorn, Ragnar and Lagertha’s son, taking over the throne of Kattegat and carrying on the legacy of his father. As the trailer of Season 6 shows, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) will assume all the power and influence of a true Viking chieftain and head to newer lands with his army.

His feats will take him all across Europe, and he will probably discover new lands and build new armies. But there’s more in store for him, as King Olaf (Steven Berkoff) approaches him to become the leader of all Vikings. But is this a conspiracy that Bjorn could find himself embroiled in? King Harald Finehair (Peter Frazen) will also have a significant role to play in Bjorn’s future, as the trailer makes it evident.

As we had learned earlier, Harald aims to become the king of all of Norway and he would go to any length to fulfill his ambitions. We also see Harald teaming up with Olaf and building new alliances. Elsewhere, fate will bring the runaway Ivar (Alex Hogh) and Bjorn to the battlefield.

Fan @otcfilmandtvTweets, “#Vikings The battle for Kattegat continues with #bjornironside being King, will he become the King of all of Norway? Let’s see what the other self proclaimed Kings think, #KingHarald and #ivortheboneless might want to a word or two before this can take place. #battleforkattegat.”

And when that happens, do we assume that Ivar the Boneless would finally take his revenge on his half-brothers for the death of his parents and losing control over Kattegat?

One fan on Reddit seems pretty convinced that Bjorn’s fast track success might prove to be dangerous and could threaten his life, as well as the kingdom he would build. Could Bjorn actually die in the final season? He’s taken over his father’s throne and has a huge target on his back. “I’m putting my money on Bjorn being the one who dies. D***… if true then he dies in 6A!?! Wow,” the fan speculates.

Since the entire plotline is extracted from real historical events and characters, there are more reasons than ever to draw parallels between what we know and what we see. One fan on Reddit, digs all the way into the history of 9th century Europe, and tries to find similarities in what ‘Vikings’ Season 6 trailer shows us and what actually happened in that era.

“Season 6a will end with Harald king of all Norway and Ivar king of Dublin,” the fan commented. “The Danish kings aligning with Ubbe had been said to be Danes coming from Dublin, so after the next battle for kattegat Harald and Ivar will split the viking world among themselves. Ivar won’t care anymore for kattegat, hell just want revenge against Bjorn and Lagertha and will be happy to give kattegat to Harald destroying everything that Bjorn has built.”

If his theory turns out to be accurate, then perhaps this will be the end of the journey for Bjorn Ironside and a closure to the saga of Ragnar Lothbrok. Now, whether History’s ‘Viking’ Season 6 will deal with these real-life events or give it their classic, dramatic spin is something that we have to gradually discover.

Meanwhile, catch the special two-hour premiere episode of ‘Vikings’ Season 6, on Wednesday, December 4 at 9 pm ET/PT, only on History channel.
