V-Wars is an anthology series detailing the accounts of the Vampire Wars from the perspective of different individuals. Four graphic novels were released between 2012 and 2016. While the series might not be an anthology series, this story might probably focus on Dr. Luther Swann (played by Ian). 12 Issues of the graphic novel have been released between 2014 and 2019. Here's all you need to know about the adaptation of the graphic novel series.
Principal production ended on October 2018 and the show is in the post-production phase. However, Executive Producer James Gibb updated on August 2019 that the cast and crew were headed for the third round of filming. The series is expected to be released on Netflix at the end of 2019 with 10 episodes in the first season.
In V-Wars, vampirism is caused by a millennia-old virus and affect individuals differently based on their personalities and cultures. Somerhalder plays Dr. Luther Swann who is a human doctor trying to understand the disease. Humans and vampires are divided into opposing factions. The vampire faction is led by Swann's best friend Michael Fayne who was Patient Zero of the virus. Swann races to find a cure before humans and vampires start an all-out war. The show chronicles the outbreak of the first Vampire War, from the savage murders committed by the newly affected to full-out battles with vampire terrorist cells, and the peace-mongering factions in between.
Ian Somerhalder is best known for his role as Damon Salvatore, the vampire in 'The Vampire Diaries'. He also had roles in 'Lost' and 'Smallville'. Somerhalder will play the role of Dr. Luther Swann and will be seen minus the fangs that fans have been so used to seeing him with.
Adrian Holmes is a Canadian actor whose previous acting credits include '19-2' and 'Arrow'. Holmes plays the role of Michael Fayne, the leader of the vampire faction and Dr Swann's former friend.

The original graphic novel was written by Jonathan Maberry who had won the Bram Stoker Prize for the Best First Novel. The show is being adapted by William Laurin and Glenn Davis. Laurin and Davis worked on 'Aftermath', 'Pinkerton', and 'Missing'. Three directors will serve throughout the series, those being, Brad Turner, T.J. Scott and The Vampire Diaries fan-favorite Ian Somerhalder. Along with 15 other producers, Somerhalder will also serve as an executive producer for the series.
Ian Somerhalder shared the first look of his character via his Instagram on August 18, 2018.
Later the actor also revealed he would be taking on the role of director as well for the series.
