The film is based on John Green's 2017 New York Times bestselling young adult novel and is directed by Hannah Marks, known for her work on the 2022 film 'Don't Make Me Go.'

John Green's books have been popular choices for screen adaptations, including 'Looking for Alaska,' 'Let It Snow,' 'Paper Towns' (featuring Nat Wolff, Cara Delevingne, and Justice Smith), and the blockbuster 'The Fault in Our Stars' (starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort).

'Turtles All the Way Down' centers on 16-year-old Aza Holmes, who struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and anxiety.

She and her best friend Daisy embark on a quest to find fugitive billionaire Russell Pickett—the father of her neighbor Davis—in hopes of claiming a cash reward. As they delve into the mystery, Aza navigates grief, friendship, mental health challenges, and her budding feelings for Davis.

In a July 2017 press release for the novel, author John Green shared, “This is my first attempt to write directly about the kind of mental illness that has affected my life since childhood, so while the story is fictional, it is also quite personal.” Green is also an executive producer of the film adaptation, alongside Laura Quicksilver, Bart Lipton, Rosianna Halse Rojas, and Richard Brener, Nikki Ramey, and Paulina Sussman from New Line Cinema.

The official synopsis reads, "A teenager with OCD tries to solve a mystery surrounding a fugitive billionaire."
