MEMPHIS, TENNESSE: The City of Memphis released four shocking videos of the violent encounter between Tyre Nichols, 29, a Black man, who died in hospital three days after being pulled over for alleged reckless driving on January 7, 2023, and the five police officers charged with his murder on Friday, January 27. The footage shows officers removing Nichols from his car, followed by a violent confrontation in which Nichols then fled on foot. Then it shows the shots of Nichols being restrained and assaulted by five officers — Desmond Mills Jr, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, and Justin Smith — at a suburban junction, as previously reported.
Following the release of the videos, a number of protesters marched along Interstate 55 in Memphis, reported Fox13Memphis. Antonio Cathey, one of the protestors, told ActionNews5, "We’re out here to let people know that we need justice, and we need it now. The city leaders and officials need to wake up and realize that this could also happen to one of their children." While many are still wondering how the officers dared to beat Nichols for three minutes in an assault while dragging him from the driver’s seat of his car as he yelled, as earlier reported, “I am just trying to go home.”

'I was shot by police': Protester, 76, demands justice for Tyre Nichols as 'very little has changed'
One angry Reddit user furiously asked, "What kind of nuts not only murder someone in the middle of the street, but do it on cameras they're carrying with them? Are they just the dumbest crooks ever?" The user further added, "Like, I've seen some wacky youtube videos of idiotic people committing crimes that totally backfire on them. But this kind of insanity now really takes the cake. Did these crooked cops not know they were wearing bodycams? How could they not know? Did they skip the training that time when it was being explained?" To which, another user replied, "Maybe they thought they’d get away with it, as most cops do."
Another said, "They were too hyped up on their own adrenaline they didn't care. These are 5 cops out of thousands - psychopaths with a licence to murder." One user said, "They were not worried because they didn’t think anyone would see it. Had the guy not died, and the mom hired a good lawyer, we would not know."
On the other hand, an individual wrote, "They were all amped up from the start. They were totally irrational. No training works on people like that. They should never have had a badge. There is likely to be a massive issue within the department IMO that has overlooked many complaints about officers in the past."
