'The Prom': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and everything you need to know of Ryan Murphy's LGBTQ-centric musical film

After Emma gets banned from attending the event as a couple with her girlfriend, it prompts a cast of Broadway eccentrics to descend on the teen's small-town home to help her get justice and acceptance. 

Ryan Murphy recently signed a deal with the streaming giant Netflix under which his first movie project was announced for the platform. The man who produced amazing TV shows like 'American Horror Story' and 'American Crime Story' left 20th Century FOX Television for a mega-deal with Netflix estimated worth $300 Million.   

Ryan's latest project is called 'The Prom', a Broadway musical which is an adaptation of the book, 'The Prom', by Jack Viertel and a book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin. The shooting will begin next month and we absolutely cannot keep calm!

The film will be releasing in Fall 2020 on Netflix. 

Plot:

The plot swirls around the experiences of an Indiana lesbian teenager who wants to bring her girlfriend to her school's big dance. As she gets banned from attending the event as a couple, it prompts a cast of Broadway eccentrics to descend on the teen's small-town home to help her get justice and acceptance. 

Cast:

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman is an award-winning actress and a well-known personality in the industry. She won an Oscar for her role in 'The Hours.' She will be starring in  Ryan Murphy's film 'The Prom' as Angie Dickinson, a veteran chorus girl.

Meryl Streep

Critics call her the greatest living actress. Meryl Streep won three Oscars for her roles in 'The Iron Lady', 'Sophie's Choice', and 'Kramer vs. Kramer.' She has at least 173 awards to her name! Meryl is known for her iconic role in 'The Devil Wears Prada' and 'Mamma Mia!' She has also appeared in a zillion other films like 'August: Osage County', 'Out of Africa' and 'Doubt'. 

Awkwafina

Awkwafina is an actress known for her role in films like 'Ocean's Eight', 'Crazy Rich Asians, and 'The Farewell'. The award-winning actress plays the role of Ms. Sheldon in this Musical drama. 

Jo Ellen Pellman

Jo Ellen Pellman is an actress who rose to fame with her role in 'The Deuce.' She has also been a part of the popular TV series 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She will be playing the lead, Emma, in Ryan Murphy's upcoming Broadway Musical 'The Prom.'

He is a writer and producer who has created amazing films and shows like 'American Horror Story', 'American Crime Story', 'Glee', Julia Roberts-starrer 'Eat Pray Love' and 'Scream Queens.' He will be directing this upcoming Broadway Musical film 'The Prom.'
