'The Mauritanian' Full Cast List: Meet Tahar Rahim, Benedict Cumberbatch and other stars from the Golden Globe-nominated film
The awards season has finally started and the entire entertainment industry is now gearing up for the upcoming Golden Globe awards ceremony. The nominations are already out and there were a few surprises as well. One of the movies that garnered nominations in two categories is Kevin MacDonald’s critically acclaimed movie ‘The Mauritanian’.
The film follows the story of a defense attorney, her associate, and a military prosecutor who come together to uncover the far-reaching conspiracy while investigating the case of a suspected 9/11 terrorist imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for six years.

Tahar Rahim as Mohmedou Ould Slahi
Born in July 1981, Tahar Rahim is a French actor of Algerian descent. Rahim started his acting career in the movie ‘The 9/11 Commission Report’ in 2006. After featuring in a couple of projects, Rahim garnered universal acclaim for his acting in the movie ‘A Prophet’ in 2009. In 2018, he appeared as Judas in the film ‘Mary Magdalene’ alongside Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix.
He has been nominated in the Best Actor by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) for ‘The Mauritanian’ at this year’s Golden Globes.
Jodie Foster as Nancy Hollander
Jodie Foster, one of the most iconic actors of all-time, plays the role of Slahi’s attorney Nancy Hollander in the movie. Foster has been a part of the industry for more than five decades and has appeared in many award-winning projects. In 1976, she acted in Martin Scorsese’s epic movie ‘Taxi Driver’ and made an incredible impression on the minds of the people.
In 1988, the actress won her first best actress trophy for ‘The Accused’. Foster received her second Oscar in 1991 for playing a young FBI trainee named Clarice Starling who is hunting a serial killer, “Buffalo Bill” (Ted Levine), who skins his female victims in ‘The Silence of the Lambs’. The movie turned out to be a huge success for her and won numerous accolades. Foster won the best actress trophy at the Academy Awards in 1992. Benedict Cumberbatch as Lt. Col Stuart Couch
Born in July 1976, as Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch, the British actor gained prominence with the TV series ‘Hawking’ in 2004. The actor appeared in several projects from 2004 and 2010, but he showed his true potential in BBC’s blockbuster hit series ‘Sherlock’. Playing the titular character, Cumberbatch gave an idea of how would the famous detective Sherlock Holmes would behave and solve cases in the modern world. The actor won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a miniseries or a TV movie for ‘Sherlock’ in 2014.
The British actor received his first Oscar nomination in 2015 for ‘The Imitation Game’ in which he played the role of English mathematical genius Alan Turing tries to crack the German Enigma code with help from fellow mathematicians.
He is now part of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and portrays the character of Doctor Strange in Marvel movies.
Shailene Woodley as Teri Duncan
Woodley plays the role of Teri Duncan in the movie, who is an associate of Foster’s character. She, along with Nancy, faces a lot of obstacles in the pursuit of justice.
Considered one of the brightest talents in the industry right, Woodley started her career in 1999 as a child actor. Born in 1991, the actress has been a part of various TV series such as ‘The O.C.’, ‘Crossing Jordan’ and ‘Jack & Bobby’ at the initial part of her career. Woodley shared the screen with George Clooney in the movie ‘The Descendants’ and got herself a nomination at the Golden Globes in 2012.
She made a swift transition to television in 2017 and was a part of the HBO’s hit series ‘Big Little Lies’ along with Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon, and Zoe Kravitz.
