'The Masked Singer' Spoilers: Who is the Crab? Johnny Gill to Bobby Brown, here are all the clues so far
'The Masked Singer' eliminated yet another contestant on Wednesday night, March 31. Grandpa Monster was shown the door but before that, the unmasking ritual revealed that the masked celebrity was "not Jake Paul" but his elder brother Logan Paul. Then, there was the newest surprise this season as the show introduced a second wildcard contestant.
The first wildcard contestant, the Orca, had made it to the lineup last week on March 24. This Wednesday, we got the Crab being introduced on the Season 5 stage. He sang 'Ain't No Sunshine' by Bill Withers and the mood in the studio turned somber and the judges could feel the pain that the Crab was channeling through his performance. Unpacking all the clues
In his clue package video, the Crab poured out his heart. "All my life I have dreamed of being a star and I was blessed that my dream came true in a flash. Everyone around the globe wanted to be like me, I wanted to be a King Crab but with every blessing, tragedy seemed to follow. It's been a struggle dealing with the darkness that has followed me and my family. We have endures so many twists, turns, and traumas," he said.
Explaining why he sang 'Ain't No Sunshine', he added: "But through the pain, it's the love of my family that gives me the strength to stand back up and be a star again. My song tonight is a tribute to that love and the family members that have gone before me. Because after all the darkness, it's time to finally let the light back in."
There were also other visual clues and objects that could help judges and viewers identify him. These were, a calculator with 2+3 typed on it, a broken mirror, miniature photos of the Bee from Season 1(Gladys Knight) and the Butterfly from Season 2 (Michelle Williams), the Monalisa painting, and a school of fish swimming by throughout the video.
Judges make guesses
Dr Ken Jeong noted that the star behind the crab mask could be either Lenny Kravitz or Bobby Brown whereas Robin Thicke opined that it is New Edition bandmate Johnny Gill behind the mask. There is a high likelihood that "The Crab" is New Edition bandmate Bobby Brown because the masked contestant spoke about struggling with family issues in his clue package. Brown has endured a lot of tragedies in the past couple of years. From the death of his ex-wife Whitney Houston in 2012 to the death of their daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown in 2015 and then his son Bobby Brown Jr dying due to an overdose in November 2020 -- Bobby Brown has seen it all and he fits the description of someone who as endured "trauma" like the Crab mentioned on the show.
