The last week’s episode of 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', titled ‘Udun’, was not just about the fight between good and evil, it also saw the devastation of a place that was touted as one of the most gorgeous places in Middle Earth. The Southlands were filled with vast Greenlands, mountains, and waterfalls. However, the fight forced the enemies to take a drastic decision of using the Black sword and opening the floodgates. A large amount of water went beneath the earth’s surface and the entire surface started to shake.

In the end, we saw Mount Doom erupting and covering the entire area with red ash and fire. As soon as the eruption occurred, everyone tried to hide somewhere safe but the impact of the eruption was so strong that a lot of people couldn’t get the time to save themselves from the catastrophic event. The opening sequence of Episode 7 saw people, who luckily survived the disaster, trying to get up on their feet and find their loved ones. Galadriel was looking out for Elendil and Halbrand. However, Elendil was busy saving people and looking out for the Queen. Meanwhile, Queen herself is busy saving the people of Tirhadad and her own soldiers.

A few moments later, Miriel and Valandil help Isildur and take him out of a dangerous situation. They all move forward to save some people stuck inside a tavern and manage to take them out. However, in the process of saving the Queen, Isildur sacrifices himself inside the house that is about to fall due to the blazing fire. As soon as the Queen and Valandil get out of the burning house, the house falls down and Isildur gets buried under the house. The Queen Regent and Valandil meet Elendil and give the devastating news to the Commander. Elendil is broken, but he moves forward with his responsibilities and takes the Queen to the place where they are setting up a camp.

Queen Regent asks Elendil where they have reached and how much time it will take to make it to the destination. However, she asks if they have crossed the Southlands. Elendil feels a bit weird and holds Miriel’s hand. It turns out that Miriel has lost his eyesight due to the impact of the eruption and the red ash clouds. But she tells Elendil to not tell anyone about it.

Elendil, who is already mourning the loss of his son, thinks that he shouldn’t have saved Galadriel from the sea because if she wouldn’t have reached Numenor, the people of Numenor wouldn’t go to the war and Isildur would have still been alive.

Is Isildur really dead? We haven’t seen his body and we know that he was alive during the Third age of Middle Earth. But this moment has surely made people emotional for Elendil.

'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' returns to Amazon Prime Video with a new episode every Friday at 12:01 am EST.
