'The Iron Mask', originally titled 'Viy 2: Journey to China' as a sequel to 'Viy: Journey to China', was announced in 2015 in a press conference in Moscow. In 2016, it was announced that the film will star Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger in lead roles among others. The film is produced by Gleb Fetisov, Alexey A. Petrukhin and Sergey Sozanovskiy.

Release date

The film doesn't have an official release for the US, however, it is slated to release in UK on April 10. 

Plot

The official synopsis for the film reads, "The Iron Mask sees action legends Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenegger team up in a high concept fantasy historical epic featuring breath-taking fights and stunning visuals. Set in the 18th century, The Iron Mask follows English traveler Jonathan Green as he journeys from Russia to China encountering dragons, black magic wizardry, and a dragon king during an incredible but deadly adventure. The action-adventure also stars Charles Dance, Jason Flemyng, and (the late) Rutger Hauer."

Jackie Chan plays the role of a master in the film that is high on witchcraft, wizardry, and action. His look reminds us of an intelligent druid who is set to stand for what is right.

Arnold Schwarzenegger as James Hook

Actor Schwarzenegger plays the role of James Hook and he is the antagonist in the film.

The other cast members include Jason Flemyng as Jonathan Green, Charles Dance as Lord Dudley, Rutger Hauer as Ambassador, Helen Yao as Cheng Lan, Martin Klebba as Captain, Christopher Fairbank as Grey and Igor Jijikine in an undisclosed role. 

Director

The film is directed by Oleg Stepchenko, who has also worked on 'Viy 1' and is a popular Russian filmmaker.

Trailer

The trailer of the film was released by Signature Entertainment on February 12 and features Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan in an epic showdown. The trailer, set in the 18th century, begins with Schwarzenegger's character James Hook telling Chan's character Master that no one has managed to escape from "the tower" in the last 500 years. Yet, Master puts up a fight and beats up a couple of men in red. The trailer also features a magic disk which is called the seal of dragon, which lets the person holding it control an actual dragon, and a woman who tries to save "everyone" from an unknown source of evil. From the looks of it, she is doesn't seem to be a very good person. Then there is Flemyng who as Jonathan Green accompanies Yao's Cheng Lan to the Great Wall of China through the Silk Route in search of something important.
