LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'The Idea of You' will be available on Prime Video from Thursday, May 2. The romantic drama film is about a 40-year-old single mother Solène Marchand (Anne Hathaway), who falls in love with a 24-year-old popular musician Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine). The movie is based on a book of the same name by Robinne Lee.

The 'Idea of You' is directed by Michael Showalter and produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Anne Hathaway who plays the lead role in the film is also among the producers of the film along with Cathy Schulman and Gabrielle Union.

The movie has a subtle message about the hypocrisy of the world when a woman dates a younger man. It also talks about the issues public figure's partner faces with the constant media attention on them. Here is our detailed review of the film.

Anne Hathaway is the heart and soul of 'The Idea of You'

Anne Hathaway delivers a tour de force performance in this film, showcasing her remarkable versatility and depth as an actress. With stunning elegance, she seamlessly embodies the diverse roles of a single mother, a devoted lover, and a savvy business owner, infusing each aspect of her character with undeniable authenticity. Hathaway's portrayal exudes a rare blend of strength and vulnerability, captivating audiences and drawing them into her character's emotional journey. In a particularly poignant moment, her raw portrayal of vulnerability during a heartfelt conversation with Hayes about her past betrayal is palpable, leaving a lasting impact on viewers. Hathaway's commanding presence elevates the film, anchoring it with a captivating intensity that resonates long after the credits roll.

Nicholas Galitzine is brilliant in his part and plays the ideal foil to Anne's character. He is charming, lovable, and knows how to emote well particularly in the final sequence of the film where he matures as a musician and lover.

Ella Rubin as Izzy and Reid Scott as Daniel also deliver standout performances in their respective roles, adding depth and nuance to the ensemble cast.

The best thing about 'The Idea of You' is that it doesn't overdo the age-gap situation. It digs deeper and explores the ideas of exploring happiness in life. Solène is a 40-year-old single mother who breaks the stereotypical mold of a woman that age and goes out and explores her happiness in this relationship.

She does have to deal with a lot of things in the process. The obvious age gap, exposing her daughter to media attention, and the difference between the worlds that Solène and Hayes belong to are the conflicts she must overcome for love to thrive between them.

The makers of the film do not move away from the character's stories but through various situations in the film, make Solène a character whom the viewers can relate to in a way that she gives up her happiness for her daughter's well-being but eventually makes it work with Hayes.

Michael Showalter delivers a refreshing romantic film

Conversations are the centerpiece of Michael Showalter's 'The Idea of You. Love brews between the protagonists as they open themselves up to each other and find their happiness albeit at life's different stages.

He also addresses the ending of the film and in a way fixes it from what it was in the book. The end of the film is hopeful and more satisfying for the viewers who will fall in love with the couple by the film's conclusion.
