'The Good Place' Season 4 Episode 10: Is Chidi too much at peace to 'do the Chidi thing' and find the answer to save humanity?
Season 4 of 'The Good Place' and the experiment that would eventually determine if humans deserve a better point system to determine if they should go to the Good Place or the Bad Place, has relied heavily on Chidi (William Jackson Harper).
First, it was detrimental that he gives up his memory when his ex-girlfriend became one of the test subjects, to protect the sanctity of the experiment, and later he was the one who got the highest number of points after getting to the fake Good Place.
Not to mention it was his classes on ethics that inspired the other test subjects to become better people as well.
Now that Team Humans have successfully convinced the Judge (Maya Rudolph), they are expecting him to make things better again — nothing major, just, you know, to come up with a system to replace the point system that has judged human beings' overall goodness count to determine if they get an entry into the Good Place or not.
The previously aired Season 4 Episode 9 of the NBC series took us through Chidi's memories, from the earliest to the last, wherein we saw he has always strived to find the answer, only to realize that there is no one answer to the universe.
Chidi is finally able to make peace with the idea that zero or many could be the answer, and primarily it is because he was able to recognize that for him, the answer has and always will be Eleanor (Kristen Bell).
He writes as much in a note and gives it to Janet (D'Arcy Carden) for safekeeping, and when he opens his eyes with all the memories — old and new — he seems like a new man. He is pretty confident and hopefully the consistent stomach ache that has plagued him all his life has finally bid adieu to him.
While the fall finale had ended with Chidi telling everyone to get to work to find an answer that would suffice in front of the judge, we are worried that he may be too much at peace.
Is "the Chidi thing that he does", as Eleanor calls it, a result of this constant nagging in his brain to find the answer? If it is, then humanity may very well be doomed. That being said, we are happy to see Chidi and Eleanor back together.
'The Good Place' is currently on a mid-season break and will return with Season 4 Episode 10 on January Thursday, January 9, 2020, on NBC.
