The ensemble cast of 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' is not worth missing

Netflix has expanded the cast for its upcoming fantasy series 'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' to be directed by Louis Leterrier

Coming to Netflix on August 30, 2019, is the prequel to the 1982 film 'The Dark Crystal' (currently streaming on Netflix). The ten-episode fantasy series will tell the story that led to the 1982 film and takes place several years before the events of the film.

'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' returns to the world of Thra with an all-new adventure to be directed by Louis Leterrier. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world. The series tells a new epic story realized using classic puppetry with cutting edge visual effects.

The world of Thra is dying. The Crystal of Truth is at the heart of Thra, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelfling uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

"'The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance' will combine the art of puppetry perfected by The Jim Henson Company, with Louis' vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects," Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix had said. "I can't wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life."

The three Gelfling heroes Rian, Brea and Deet are voiced by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel. The cast also includes Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, Alicia Vikander, and Donna Kimball.

If this wasn't enough, Netflix just recently expanded the star-studded cast of the ten-episode prequel series.

The latest addition to the cast includes Sigourney Weaver (of 'Alien' fame) who is set to voice the role of The Myth-Speaker, 'Game of Thrones' Lena Headey will be lending her voice to Maudra Fara, Benedict Wong from 'Doctor Strange' will be playing The General, The Collector will be voiced by Awkwafina (from 'Crazy Rich Asians'), Naia's character will be voiced by Hannah John-Kamen ('Ant-Man and the Wasp'), and the Muppets veteran puppeteer Dave Goelz is Baffi.
