'The Crown' Season 4: Has Netflix series 'reignited hatred' for Charles and Camilla with Princess Diana plot?

Spoilers for 'The Crown' Season 4

With the introduction of Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) in the latest season of Netflix's 'The Crown', the focus of the show was as much on the late princess's ill-fated marriage to Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor) as it was about his mother, Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Coleman). We see that Charles continued his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles (Emerald Fennell) even as he got married to Diana, and kept comparing Diana unfavorably to Camilla, even though she was more than a decade younger than his mistress.

This is especially evident in the sixth episode when Charles refers to Diana as "pathetic" and "fragile" in a call with Camilla, while the Wales's were on a tour to Australia. We also see more of this in a later episode, when Diana's first solo tour to New York is a resounding success, causing an upset Camilla to tell Charles that they cannot go public with their relationship because Diana is the darling in the eyes of the public. This causes Charles to lash out at Diana later for upsetting Camilla.

Both Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles ended their first marriages in divorce in the mid-1990s, however, it took a decade for Charles to finally marry Camilla -- after years of opposition from both the royal family as well as the public. While the animosity towards Camilla Parker-Bowles may have died down in recent years, Netflix's 'The Crown' may have brought up buried feelings, as viewers began to sympathize with the late Princess Diana all over again.

One viewer tweeted, "A big [f**k] you to Camilla Parker-Bowes and an enormous [f**k] you to Prince Charles. Thank you to The Crown for Reigniting my hatred for these two selfish human beings and destroying a woman that was too good for that despicable family. #TheCrown." Another tweeted, "Meghan Markle caught on the bullshit in the royal family quickly Sadly Princess Diana got in at a young age, so Prince Charles & Camilla literally played her. That family used her as an incubator. So sad #TheCrownNetflix #TheCrown The Duchess of Sussex did what she had to do."

A viewer opined, "The absolute cruelty of charles and camilla to not only have their affair but to also mock diana and talk shit & call her immature when they were in their fucking 30s when diana had JUST turned 20 before the wedding... his gaslighting ass was 32 saying SHE was the issue #TheCrown." Another expressed, "camila is a dirty [b***h]. first of all, it’s disrespectful to even ask diana to come out with you, and then even more disrespectful for the only conversation you have is about your relationship with her fiancée. I would’ve bitch slapped her so hard #TheCrown." A viewer wrote, "Camilla Parker Bowles is a homewrecker but Charles was a huge player in his marriages demise. #TheCrown."
