Plot

Martha Evans finds herself homeless just a week before Christmas. She along with her two young daughters and a stepson move to a new town filled with friendly strangers.

Martha's sad excuse for a husband, Cal, simply vanishes without a word and cashes out all the money from her account. Martha takes her kids to a sleepy town where she moves into a motel and begs the owner of a local diner, Trudy, to hire her as a waitress.

Trudy takes the chance and helps Martha. But even then, things go from bad to worse for Martha as she is unable to manage expenses and her car breaks down.

As she begins to meet more of the locals, including a handsome Sheriff Joe, a teenage babysitter Jeanie, and a grumpy but warm-hearted regular diner Les, she finds her faith restored.

Cal, however, makes surprise entry into the town, just in time for Christmas. Can the town still manage to give her the Merry Christmas she deserves or will the ghost of the past come back to haunt her present?
