'The Boys' Season 2 Episode 5: What would sadomasochism between superheroes be like? Wonder no more

We have seen what sex was like for A-Train and his girlfriend, the glow in the dark variety with Starlight and Hughie, and now, it is time for some S&M

Beyond the brilliant commentary on racism, corporate conglomerates taking over the world, and representation among other things, there are two other things that audiences love about 'The Boys'. The crude portrayal of violence, which is shockingly entertaining and yet thought-provoking, and the different kinds of sex that the show has so far portrayed. At this point, be warned about how the following description of scenes may be triggering. The sex and the violence mostly go hand-in-hand in many scenes and it was one of the things that many viewers found hard to stick with as well.

In season 1, we saw how Robin died mid-kiss as A-Train literally ran through her. Compared to the other times individuals had to die because they had sex, this is not as bad. Then we saw A-Train's girlfriend, who was high after snotting some Compound V kill a poor man. As a supe, the strength that this woman had used during sex was so much that she would lose control while climaxing and suffocate the man to death. In fact, the first season had also portrayed a scene where survivors of a Supe Collateral Damage group discuss how their life changed after acquaintance with supes.

One man had even recalled an incident where he had had sex with the Ice Queen, who had lost control of her powers just for a second and turned into ice. This one second ended up being dangerous for the man as his penis froze and snapped right off. The portrayal of supe-sex is also in a way calling out the other superhero comics for not contemplating the consequences of a superpowered human being mating with one who doesn't have that power. Except of course for Rogue in the X-Men series when she struggled a lot because she couldn't touch a human being without hurting them.

While the first season focussed on everything that could go wrong, the second season seems to be going for everything that can go right when supes have sex -- with each other or with someone who doesn't have any powers. Hughie and Starlight got together during a road trip and all that happened was Starlight's eyes glowing in the dark. Sure, they seemed to have enjoyed the night but seeing how Starlight put a stop to such sexcapades in the future, who knows.

However, episode 5 released, and the show is back to marrying sex and violence together again. This time though, it doesn't lead to anyone's death, or even injury leading to appendages being chopped off. Instead, it is just two supes, of the worst variety finding out that they have the same preference when it comes to sex -- S&M. From lasering each other and inflicting pain on each other to throwing each other forcefully away; it is all about masochism and sadism. The two of them bring the roof down, or in this case, the chandelier down after a victory run in getting high points.

'The Boys' Season 2 new episodes will release on Fridays and can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
