Bishop David O’Connell shooting: Husband of LA ‘peacemaker’ cleric’s housekeeper arrested for murder
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The authorities have arrested a suspect in Los Angeles Bishop David O’Connell’s murder case. On Monday, February 20, a suspect was detained after a well-known Bishop was found dead in his home with gunshots over the weekend. It is reported that the alleged murderer was arrested in an hour-long standoff with police. He had reportedly barricaded himself inside his home on Kenwood Ave in Torrance. The pictures released from the area show a Sheriff’s SWAT team at his house with a strong armored police vehicle.
Reporter Clara Harter tweeted, “@LASDHQ takes a man into custody in connection with the killing of Bishop David O’Connell. The man had barricaded himself in his home on Kenwood Ave, Torrance. Neighbor Marty Hernandez says the sheriffs arrived at midnight and the suspect finally emerged at 9 am today.” As per one of the neighbors, the suspect was “an odd man who was up at all hours of the night and always digging in his yard.” Apparently, cops have arrested the husband of a woman who used to work as a housekeeper for Bishop David G. O’Connell, reports LA Times.

Who was David O’Connell?
David O’Connell was an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, whose body was found inside his Hacienda Heights home at about 1 pm Saturday, February 18. The 69-year-old was a priest for 45 years and was celebrated as a ‘peacemaker’ amid his brutal killing. “He was a peacemaker and had a passion for serving those in need while improving our community,” LA Country Sheriff Robert Luna tweeted.
The suspect’s car was towed this morning. Neighbors say he lived on Kenwood Ave for about five years with his wife. “He was a good man, your average older man, always talkative,” neighbor Luis Lopez, adding that he is shocked by the murder accusation pic.twitter.com/s9Y4aImVNk

Los Angeles Archbishop José H Gomez also paid his tribute to O’Connell, “He was a peacemaker with a heart for the poor and the immigrant, and he had a passion for building a community where the sanctity and dignity of every human life were honored and protected," said Gomez.
