LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: All Susan Sarandon fans are sad today as Fox has reportedly canceled the actress' musical drama 'Monarch' after just one season. The musical family dynasty drama had opened to a massive opening, however, with time it didn't meet the channel's expectations. The show's eleventh, perhaps now the last episode, which aired on December 6, 2022, is the way Fox chose to bid adieu to the multigenerational music family drama series.

It is a little heartbreaking for the fans too as the channel positioned the series as its big gamble for the fall. However, it was the only new series on the timetable as it didn’t get the audience it needed to justify a renewal. Ratings fell hard after the Sarandon-heavy first episode. While things were sort of steady from there, critics ripped the show apart for being a Susan Sarandon project with very little Sarandon in it. The actress has been a big name in the industry since she started her career in the 1970s. We can assume giving the iconic star less screen time could be a reason for the decline of the audience.

Fox decided to end the Roman family’s reign by canceling 'Monarch' after one season, according to a report by deadline Deadline. The final episode aired on December 6, 2022, and will now serve as the series ender.

In the show, Sarandon starred as Dottie Cantrell, the matriarch of Nashville's musical royalty family, who got fringe on her jackets and skeletons in her closet. Along with Sarandon, the series also featured Trace Adkins, Anna Friel, Beth Ditto, Martha Higareda, Inigo Pascual, and Joshua Sasse.

Created by Melissa London Hilfers, the series was executively produced by showrunner Jon Harmon Feldman, Gail Berman, and Hend Baghdady of The Jackal Group, Michael Rauch, and Jason Owen.

The official synopsis of the series stated, "Reigning King of Country Music Albie Roman, along with his insanely talented - and tough as nails - wife, Queen of Country Music Dottie Cantrell Roman, have created a country music dynasty, but even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. When their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown Nicolette "Nicky" Roman will stop at nothing to protect her family's legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom, alongside her brother Luke and sister Gigi."

'Monarch' premiered on September 11, 2022, and ended after almost three months with its eleventh episode. You can still watch the series on Hulu.
