'Southern Charm' Season 8: Is Austen still in love with Madison? Fans say he needs to 'do some self-development'

While Austen and Olivia set out on a date, all he could seem to do was talk about Madison, much to fans' dismay

'Southern Charm' Season 8 certainly started off with a bang, seeing that the show has seen mostly drama and confrontations above all else, while just being five episodes in. While the cast seems to struggle to navigate around friendships (we're using that term rather loosely), they're also trying to figure out where they stand with their romantic relationships.

Austen Kroll has made it plenty clear that he's into Olivia Flowers and the feeling seems to be mutual. Until Madison LeCroy is brought up in conversation, that is. Although Madison has moved on from him and is now an engaged woman, it looks like she left quite a mark on him, seeing that she is all he can ever talk about.

As Austen and Olivia sat down for what was technically their first date (seeing that they were actually alone for once), Olivia briefly mentioned Madison and Venita's garden party. Austen wasted no time making the conversation about Madison, which Olivia noted was clearly a trigger point for him. He acknowledged that he was talking about her but explained the impact that she had on him. He also spoke about taking his current relationship slow, which Olivia found rather presumptuous. Fans were on her side and agreed that Austen might not be ready to be with someone. 

"Austen struggling to have a basic, adult conversation. I feel it would be like pulling teeth to be on a first date with him. #SouthernCharm" wrote a fan. "There’s no way after this “date” that Olivia will be interested in Austen. They haven’t even hooked up and he’s talking about taking things slow. #SouthernCharm" agreed another. "Austen is still in love with Madison. His new girl (whose name I refuse to learn because I hope she doesn’t come back) is a rebound/ placeholder. #SouthernCharm" said a fan. "Madison had Austen convinced no one liked him and no one thinks he’s funny. You needed Madison to tell you that? "Austen saying he was convinced that no one likes him by his ex confirms the Ciara thing was just for his ego lol because he literally has not mentioned her once #SouthernCharm" added another.
