Sophia Kelly and Logan Hutchings: Illinois couple charged with murder after 4-month-old son found dead with rib and skull fractures
PINCKNEYVILLE, ILLINOIS: An Illinois couple has been charged with murder in their infant's death after a 10-month-long investigation. In June 2022, the 4-month-old boy was taken to the hospital following rib and skull fractures. The baby's parents were identified as murder suspects by investigators.
The murder probe led by Illinois State Police concluded with the arrest of Logan Hutchings and Sophia Kelly, both 21. Local authorities in Washington County and Pinckneyville and the Department of Children and Family Services were involved in the investigation. Each defendant faces multiple murder charges, according to Illinois State Police, reported Law and Crime.

The infant had a skull fracture and multiple rib fractures
According to police, "On June 12, 2022, ISP DCI was requested by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and the Pinckneyville Police Department to investigate serious injuries sustained to a three-month-old male infant. The infant had been admitted to a hospital in St Louis, Missouri, and was discovered to have a skull fracture along with multiple rib fractures."
"Prior to the arrival at the hospital, the infant had been in the care of Hutchings and Kelly, the infant’s parents, in Pinckneyville. On June 14, 2022, the infant was pronounced deceased at the hospital as a result of these injuries," police added. The evidence led to the arrest of the couple who are charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
Parents shared images of the infant boy as a tribute after his death
"My sweet boy. We will get justice to you," wrote Kelly on Facebook on June 16, 2022, two days after the infant's death.
A day before the beginning of the probe into the infant's injuries, Kelly shared an image of herself and Logan Hutchings with the baby.
Two days after the baby boy's death, Hutchings also shared a tribute on Facebook on June 16, 2022, and wrote, "My world has been turned around 5 times this week and I’ll never have trust in anyone again."
On June 29, 2022, Hutchings shared a fundraiser for baby Ocean Wayne Hutchings that was started by a relative following his death. The accused couple is held in custody in Washington County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond, according to the state police, reported Law and Crime.
