This article contains spoilers for 'Silicon Valley' Season 6 Episode 2

Where there is Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch), there are ethical conundrums right around the corner. In season 6 episode 2 of ‘Silicon Valley’, we saw Richard get as close to a deal with the devil as possible.

Maximo Reyes (Arturo Castro), a shady Chilean businessman offered PiedPiper a billion dollars for 10% -- an offer that would be bad on many counts. For one, Reyes’ money comes with the historical baggage of human rights atrocities.

Two, he threatened Richard of unspeakable consequences, should he not be allowed to mine user data on PiperNet in exchange for his money. So will Richard succumb to his threats and his own desire to fire Colin (Neal Casey)? Unlikely.

In the season 6 trailer, we see Richard telling Bertram Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) and Dinesh Chugtai (Kumail Nanjiani) that one can’t put a price on ethics. So that means Richard, at least once, refuses the money, despite the threats.

But in a promo for episode 3 -- 'Hooli Smokes' -- we see Reyes telling Richard cheerfully on the phone what would happen to him next. The scene cuts right to Richard puking his guts out.

He never had a strong stomach. The promo also shows Richard’s attorney telling him he is out of options. This could mean Reyes might have found a way to pressurize PiedPiper further.

But the most exciting part of the promo is Monica Hall (Amanda Crew) saying that they could buy Hooli, Gavin Belson’s (Matt Ross) company. We already know Hooli is not in a great space.

With Amazon taking over most of the company’s profitable and innovative assets, Belson is left with impatient investors, bad ideas and only a fraction of the portfolio he could boast earlier. PiedPiper buying Hooli would be the ultimate middle finger-worthy action Richard could do.

On the other hand, despite how desperate he is, one knows in their heart that Belson would never sell Hooli to Richard. But with ‘Silicon Valley’, one can never tell, can they?

New episodes of ‘Silicon Valley’ premiere Sundays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
