Episode 8 sees a new door that can only be opened via a security card be installed for the MDR room, which had Mr Milchick (Tramell Tillman) personally escort each one of the employees to the room. While being escorted Dylan (Zach Cherry) angrily questions Milchick about being woken up on the outside and asks if the little boy who hugged him was his son. But Milchick just casually brushes it off and tells him to keep it quiet and warns him that it's better to not tell the others.

Dylan who could not stop thinking about his son finally snaps later on, and attacks Milchick, biting him till he bleeds. We see a stunned Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), and Irving (John Turturro) puzzled about the intense reaction to which Dylan spills the details after Milchick leaves. He tells them about being woken up outside of work and his son, informing them about what Milchink called the 'Overtime Contingency'. This allows the workers to be woken up outside via controls inside Lumon. Everyone is astonished as this was something they weren't aware of as the contract didn't mention it. Mark then shares that he has Mr Graner's (Michael Cumpsty) security card and they decide to go look for more information about this contingency and secretly exit the room and head to the control room.

The control room sees Mark and Helly find absolutely no one and the station clearly unmanned. Before Ms Cobel (Patricia Arquette) arrives Helly manages to grab the page on 'Overtime Contingency' from the manual which sees the team learn more. Severed workers can be woken up outside by manually operating two levers in the control room, which causes their work memories to kick in. This sees the group decide to awaken themselves outside to learn more about their outies and preserve that knowledge for their innies. Dylan volunteers to stay back one day so that they can try it out. With this extremely eye-opening and important information, the workers get one step closer to finding the truth. Lumon Industries just lost a valuable card that will instead help the MDR team in their investigation.

'Severance' returns with a new episode each Friday on Apple TV+.
