'Riverdale' season 4: Tragedy, horror, sex, football, and murder hint at a gripping season in store for the teen drama

Executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa joined series stars Mädchen Amick, Marisol Nichols, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, and Molly Ringwald at New York Comic Con to give fans a first look at all-new, never-before-seen footages of the upcoming season.

It looks like 'Riverdale' season 4 is all pulling out all stops to make it the most gripping and intriguing season ever. The New York Comic-Con gave fans a first look at the new trailer and never-before-seen footage of the upcoming season. The synopsis reads: "Archie receives a phone call that changes his life forever, and the gang navigates a senior year filled with family secrets, scandals, a new school, and complicated relationships."

The two-minute 40-second clip starts off with the four main teens Archie (KJ Apa), Veronica (Camila Mendes), Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) talking about their final year of school and having plans of camping in the weekend while having breakfast at Pop's, before Archie receives a phone call about his father Fred Andrews' (Luke Perry) tragic death. The scene then shifts to a quick glimpse of Perry followed by Archie's plans of converting the El Royale gym into a part community center with Mad Dog (Eli Goree) and Mad Dog has a brother, how's that for the first surprise?

Meanwhile, Veronica's father Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) has pulled yet another shady stunt that seems to have put his own daughter in the middle of a "scandal" that we'll know as the season progresses. Jughead has joined a new school, Stonewall Prep and Betty is still figuring out her mum's (Mädchen Amick) whereabouts after her involvement with The Farm. Betty still has her doubts about her brother Charles though. Guess the investigative streak isn't taking a break.

Dark times were teased for Madelaine Petsch's Cheryl Blossom by showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the fans got a first look of her interacting with her dead brother's body after she plays a game with her Nana and Jason and there also seems to be a doll that's haunted. It's weird and we don't know what Cheryl is up to, but it sure looks mysterious and demented. 

What's 'Riverdale' without the steamy romance? The footage also shows romantic moments between Jug and betty, Arch and Ronnie, FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) and Alice Copper Cheryl and Toni (Vanessa Morgan), which doesn't come as a surprise, but here comes the shocker— Hermoine and Hiram. The couple have done nothing but find ways to bring each other down, but this time, however, there are some alarming changes in the offing.

The final few seconds see a glimpse of football, Betty having visions of the Black Hood and the Gargoyle King, Ronnie in some deep predicament and a rage-filled Archie who pummels away at his boxing punch bag. The footage ends with a bruised Alice and Betty walking with a gun in the latter's hand, and last we hear is a gunshot as the title card plays. 

There's a tragedy, crime, horror, sex, football, and murder and the teens will have an epic story to tell when 'Riverdale's season 4 hits The CW on October 9.
