'Record of Youth'/'Chungchungirok': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Netflix's K-drama
Korean dramas have become a popular genre in the recent past and international or foreign dramas have taken the front seat over local American releases. Many fans of the K-drama genre are looking forward to 'Record of Youth', originally titled 'Chungchungirok', a Netflix Original South-Korean romantic drama releasing early September. Seemingly, like most K-dramas on the giant streamer, this too targets young adults and involves romance and has the theme of chasing your dreams. Here is what we know of the series' upcoming release.
Release date
'Record of Youth' aka 'Chungchungirok' releases on Monday, September 7, 2020. Two episodes of the series will release weekly on Mondays and Tuesdays with 16 episodes in total being released. The series will also be broadcasted in South Korean on channel tVN. The most recent episodes of the series will be available to stream the same day it airs on tVN.
Plot
The synopsis reads: "Three young fashionistas are trying to make it big in the fashion industry, but the class division has greatly determined their paths. Dreams are a luxury that not every person can afford, but a youthful spirit and blazing passion can make all of them come true."
Cast
There are quite a few cast members in the series that many may remember from other major productions, especially other K-dramas. Park Bo Gum known for 'Itaewon Class', 'Reply 1988 and 'Hello Monster' plays the role of Sa Hye Joon. Park So Dam known for 'Cinderella and the Four Knights', 'Parasite' and 'A Beautiful Mind' plays the role of Ahn Jung Ha, Byun Woo Suk known for 'Search: WWW', ' Live Up to Your Name' and 'Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo' plays the role of Won Hae Hyo, Ha Ree Ra known for 'I Love You, My Enemy', 'To Be With You' and '1919 Yoo Kwan Soon' plays the role of Han Ae Sook.
Shin Ae Ra known for 'Ugly Alert', 'My Love' and 'Master in the House' plays the role of Kim Yi Young, Han Jin Hee known for 'Never Twice', 'Remember: War of the Son' and 'Aeja’s Older Sister, Minja' plays the role of Sa Min Ki, Park Soo Young known for 'Soul Mechanic,' 'Hi Bye, Mama!' and 'Doctor Prisoner' plays the role of Sa Young Nam, Seo Sang Won known for 'Vagabond,' Be Melodramatic' and 'My Mister' plays the role of Won Tae Kyeong, Lee Jae Won known for 'Kill It', 'Heart Surgeons' and 'While You Were Sleeping' plays the role of Sa Kyeong Joon and Shin Ae Ra known for 'Find Me in Your Memory,' 'Doctor John' and 'Hi Bye, Mama!' plays the role of Lee Min Jae.
Creators
The series is directed by An Gil-ho who is known for 'Stranger', 'Memories of Alhambra' and 'Watcher'. Ha Myeong-hee, who is known for 'Doctors' and 'Temperature of Love', scripted the series. The production is produced by Studio Dragon and Pan Entertainment known for 'Winter Sonata,' 'The Moon Embracing the Sun,' 'Fight for My Way', and 'When the Camellia Blooms'.
Trailer
The trailer is a sweet one, with three young stars — two actors and a makeup artist — are trying to make a mark in the world while being weighed down by life and its decisions. It's a short trailer, so too much information isn't given out, but given the success of K-dramas in the recent past (and earlier for fans of the genre) we see this taking off just as well as 'It's Okay Not To Be Okay' did.
