‘Quiz’ Preview: Meet the cast of AMC drama that explores the ‘Who Wants To be A Millionaire?’ scandal

The upcoming legal drama series features some of the best actors of British television and here’s what you should know about them

AMC is all set to premiere its upcoming legal drama miniseries ‘Quiz’. The three-part series is a fictional representation of the famous scandal of Charles and Diana Ingram, who participated in the legendary game show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ and won the highest prize money of one million pounds. Later, the network and the production company investigated whether the couple had cheated their way through - leading to a trial. In the drama version, we will see actors Matthew Macfadyen, Sian Clifford, and Michael Sheen as the main characters.

As intriguing as the cast sounds, here’s a little background on each of them, so you get to know the actors better before you catch them in action!

Matthew Macfadyen as Charles Ingram

Macfadyen is an English actor from Norfolk; he plays the role of Major Charles Ingram, who was accused of cheating the game show to win a million pounds. Macfadyen has worked across theater, film, and television and is best recognized for his role of Mr. Darcy in ‘Pride & Prejudice’, followed by Daniel in Frank Oz’s ‘Death at a Funeral’. His stage performances include productions like ‘The Duchess of Malfi’, ‘The School for Scandal’, ‘Much Ado about Nothing’, among many others. On television, Macfadyen gained recognition from his work in ‘Ripper Street’. But he has made many appearances on popular shows like ‘Criminal Justice, ‘Agatha Christies’ Marple’, and ‘The Last Kingdom’, to name a few.

You may know her as Clare, or Fleabag’s stiff, upper-lipped sister in the comedy series ‘Fleabag’. Clifford started her acting career with stage performances and came to be known as an incredible performer in Off West End productions. Some of her notable theater works include ‘Without Laughing’, ‘Contraction’, and ‘Listening Out’. On television, Clifford appeared in shows like ‘Midsommer Murders’, ‘Vanity Fair’, and ‘Liar’, among other shorts and miniseries. Clifford was nominated for the Emmy Awards in Outstanding Supporting Actress category for her role of Clare in ‘Fleabag’. In 'Quiz', she plays the role of Diana Ingram, Charle's Ingram's wife.

Michael Sheen needs no introduction. He will be seen in 'Quiz' as the show's host Chris Tarrant, the real-life television personality and broadcast producer. Besides being a star of British film and television industry, Sheen has also carved a niche in Hollywood. The award-winning Welsh actor and political activist gained immense popularity in the theater circuit for his performance in ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘The Seagull’, ‘Henry V’,  but most importantly in ‘Amadeus’, which shot him to fame and got him recognized on American television and films. Sheen appeared in major roles in popular television series like ‘Dr. Who’, ‘Masters of Sex’, ‘The Good Fight’, ‘Good Omens’, ‘Prodigal Son’, along with a stream of roles in Hollywood movies.

With such a power-packed cast, you can expect the drama series to be nothing short of impactful! ‘Quiz’ will premiere on May 31, 10pm/9c, only on AMC.
