Disney+ is home to some of the most amazing content out there. From ‘The Mandalorian’ to ‘Science Fair’, the streaming platform has managed to give a strong competition to Netflix by foraying into various genres. The streaming platform is now partnering with National Geographic Documentary Films and filmmakers Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster on the feature documentary ‘Own The Room’, which will premiere exclusively on Disney+ on March 12.

The documentary revolves around five students from various parts of the world as they try to take their budding business projects to Macau, China, to participate in the prestigious Global Student Entrepreneur Awards. The show chronicles the journey of Santosh, a student from a small farming town in Nepal; Alondra, who works the register at her family’s bakery in Puerto Rico; Jason, a marketing machine from Greece; and Daniela, an immigrant fleeing the crisis in Venezuela.

Release date

Viewers will get a chance to watch the documentary ‘Own The Room’ on Disney+ on March 12.

Plot

The upcoming documentary tells the amazing story of five students who overcame all the obstacles in pursuing their dreams. The film shows how they fought poverty and civil unrest to represent their respective countries at a global event and do their best to clinch the coveted $100,000 grand prize that will change their lives.

Talking about the film, co-directors Costantini and Foster said, “Given the difficult time our world is facing, this enthusiastic and determined group of young entrepreneurs are a ray of hope for a better, brighter future. We are excited to be working alongside National Geographic again and cannot imagine a more perfect platform than Disney+ to share these incredible stories and inspire children and adults alike to make a positive impact on our world.”

Daniela Blanco

Daniela Blanco was crowned the winner at the 2019 EO Global Student Entrepreneur Awards for starting a company named Sunthetics with the goal of making the chemical industry more sustainable and less harmful to the environment. Born in the USA, Blanco competed against 51 other young entrepreneurs and won the coveted title.

Alondra Toledo

Hailing from Puerto Rico, Alondra Toledo is a social justice advocate who extensively works in reducing inequalities from the vulnerable communities. She is also the inspiration behind an application that makes it easy for hearing impaired people to communicate with healthcare professionals. Her main motive is to create more awareness about health services for deaf and hard-of-hearing communities globally.

Henry Onyango Odhiambo

Henry Onyango Odhiambo from Kenya started a website called Roometo which helps students in finding a secure, comfortable and affordable private hostel (Disney+)

The youngster from Nairobi was one of the finalists of the EO Global Student Entrepreneur Awards that took place in 2019. Odhiambo started a website called Roometo which helps students find a secure, comfortable and affordable private hostel. He started the venture after seeing how students were unable to find affordable housing in Kenya.

Jason Hadzikostas

Jason Hadzikostas from Greece was one of the finalists at the global event and is the co-founder of iCry2Talk (Disney+)

The entrepreneur from Greece was also one of the finalists at the global event and is the co-founder of iCry2Talk. iCry2Talk bridges the communication gap between parents and infants by translating a baby’s cry using artificial intelligence and maps it to a specific category such as hunger, sleep and more.

Creators

Directed by Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster, ‘Own The Room’ is an uplifting story of how these youngsters from different parts of the world compete against each other to make the world a better place. A writer-turned-director, Constantini started her professional career in 2016 as a cinematographer in the docuseries ‘The Naked Truth’.

In 2018, she partnered with Foster to direct her first documentary feature named ‘Science Fair’. Constantini and Foster were praised for their unique storytelling and the movie received universal acclaim. Both won the best first-time director award for the project at the 2018 Critics Choice Documentary Awards.

Rupert Maconick and Jeffrey Plunkett serve as producers. Tobias Lütke, Jason Badal, Colin McRae, Carolyn Bernstein and Ryan Harrington serve as executive producers.

The movie chronicles five students from disparate corners of the planet as they take their budding business ventures to Macau, China, to compete in the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards. In the uplifting film, each of the business hopefuls has overcome immense obstacles in pursuing their dreams, from hurricanes to poverty to civil unrest.
