NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Through three seasons, Hulu's popular show 'Only Murders in the Building' surprised fans with star-studded cameos. While guest stars such as Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd contributed to the main plot, some of the cameos were quite random, including Amy Schumer playing an exaggerated version of herself in Season 2.

'Trainwreck' fame Amy Schumer was introduced as herself in Season 2 of 'Only Murders in the Building'. She moved into Sting's former apartment and later proposed a TV series to Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) based on their true crime podcast. Fans were puzzled by her cameo and couldn't understand her relevance to the narrative.

Random cameos could be frustrating in a movie or TV show as viewers expect them to either add to the mystery or solve it. Schumer only appeared in the first two episodes of the season and brought her fun, self-mocking vibe to the show.

Her cameo was absurd and added a push to the narrative in subtle ways. Firstly, she filled in the void of Sting, who appeared in 'Only Murders in the Building' Season 1. Much like Sting, Schumer too arrived in The Arconia at a suspicious time, making her a potential red herring in the story. She was tangled in Bunny's murder investigation, especially when she ended up with a fake version of key evidence, the Rose Cooper painting.

Apart from the mystery plot, her cameo retained the essence of the Arconia, an affluent building that houses several celebrities, thus attempting to add a real touch to the fictional narrative.

Her cameo in 'Only Murders in the Building' gave Schumer a much-needed push in her career. She had some hits and misses in her career, including a controversial stint hosting the 2022 Oscars. Her clever move to poke fun at herself in the popular show helped her reconnect with audiences in a fresh and self-aware way.

Yes, her appearance had very little to do with solving the mystery, but that's not the reason why she was brought in. Her job was to add humor and a pinch of authenticity to the show, and she delivered it.
