'One Chicago' Crossover 2019: 'Chicago Med' ups the stakes with the infection growing and the teams struggling to keep the threat contained

The second hour revolved more around the spreading of the infection as the police and doctors tries to keep it contained.

We're now on to the 'Chicago Med' part of the crossover. Song's infection is spreading rapidly and though Dr. Crockett Marcel rushes her into surgery, she does not survive. Natalie discovers a hangnail on Upton's finger -- meaning she may have been exposed to the bacteria. The CDC also shows up at Med in the first few minutes of the second hour. Will knows Cheryl from CDC and has been asked by Sharon to act as the liaison between the hospital and the CDC.

More victims are piling up and this time from the same apartment complex and the paramedics rush there. Things are getting chaotic as people are getting angsty about the infection spreading. Sharon sends Maggie home worried about the cancer treatment affecting her immunity. Choi and Rojas (from 'P.D.') are evacuating the people from the apartment complex and taking them to decontamination centers.

Halstead comes to Med to talk to Upton who has been quarantined in the hospital and Dr. Charles tries talking to a woman who is spouting a conspiracy theory about the infection coming from a biological weapon used by the CIA as an experiment on the building. Upton bonds with a 15-year-old girl, Amanda who is quarantined with her and tells her the story of how she became a cop (being inspired by Sgt. Trudy Platt) in a quieter moment in the episode.

Meanwhile, a man shows up at the police station with some information on the Jane Doe with the baby who died the previous hour. It turns out, this woman also lived in the apartment complex that is being treated as ground zero for the infection. Intelligence rules out Anderson as a suspect since it looks like someone else was trying to make him look like one and they learn that a man with a bug sprayer might be the culprit based on the witness information. Atwater finds the bug sprayer in the lab and Will realizes that "this is an act of terrorism".

It also looks like Will is hitting it off with Cheryl from the CDC and she reveals that she used to have a crush on him in undergrad while the two try to find an antibiotic to treat the infection. But the staph bacteria is one they've never seen before as it reproduces and acts quickly. Voight wants to interview the people from the apartment but Sharon and Charles tell him it's not a good idea to interview them at such a tense moment. But Voight needs information, so Charles accompanies Upton as she questions those in quarantine.

Cheryl and Will try working with the scientists from Central Chicago University (the site of the science building) who recognize the strain of bacteria -- they were researching on an effective antibiotic to highly-resistant strains but their research was destroyed in the fire. When Amanda's neighbor is discovered to have been infected, Amanda spirals and Upton calms her down.

Dr. Marcel and April go to surgery to remove the infected parts, but the infection is spreading rapidly and it looks like the man (who wanted to be a firefighter) will lose his arm. By now, the victim count is up to nine. The people in quarantine grow restless and riot and escape the hospital. The police manage to round up most of them but some are still missing.  Politics is coming into play as the mayor's office pressures Sharon to make a false claim about a cure coming soon. Upton is cleared of the infection, but she is worried about Amanda. Natalie offers to stay with Amanda. A few minutes later, Amanda is confirmed to be infected and is rushed to the OR as her infection spreads rapidly.

Meanwhile, Intelligence is closing in on the man suspected of spraying the bacteria in the apartment building. Now it's on to the final hour of the crossover on 'Chicago P.D.'
