'Never Have I Ever': Release date, plot, cast, and everything you need to know about Mindy Kaling's coming of age Netflix comedy

Borrowing from Kaling's real-life experiences while growing up, the upcoming Netflix comedy will introduce us to Devi, an Indian-American teenager.

After blessing us with an evergreen comedy like 'The Mindy Project', Mindy Kaling is now moving on to coming of age comedies, with 'Never Have I Ever'. The show, slated to premiere next year, will chronicle the life a young teenager growing up as a first-generation South Asian American, with ample instances inspired by Kaling's own experience growing up. Here's all you need to know about it.

Release date:

There's been no official date assigned for the premiere of 'Never Have I Ever', but it has a 10 episode order, with all of them arriving on Netflix, sometime in 2020.

Plot:

Borrowing from Kaling's real-life experiences while growing up, the upcoming Netflix comedy from her will introduce us to Devi, the Indian-American teenager as she comes of age. The show is set in modern-day America. We saw glimpses of a teenager from a similar ethnicity in flashbacks of Kaling's famous Fox rom-com series 'The Mindy Project', where Kaling's titular character, called Mindy Lahiri was working as a flourishing OB-Gyn in New York. But this time things are getting more elaborate and detailed, as the entire series will focus on Devi's coming of age.

Cast:

Newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan of Tamil/Canadian descent is going to play the role of Devi, the young girl whose story we will come across in 'Never Have I Ever'. Tennis maestro John McEnroe will serve as the narrator for the series, with the rest of the cast yet to be announced.

Creator:

Kaling co-created 'Never Have I Ever' with her Mindy Project writer-producer Lang Fisher. The duo is also serving as showrunners, and they are executive producing too, alongside Howard Klein, David Miner, and Tristam Shapeero.
