The South Korean entertainment industry has taken the world by storm. Be it their music or their movies — everything coming out of South Korea seems to be hitting the bull’s eye. So Netflix is trying its best to capitalize on this. After getting some really amazing reactions from some of their Korean shows, the streaming giant is set to up the ante with the upcoming show ‘The Silent Sea’.

The upcoming Korean show revolves around a group of astronauts leaving planet Earth in order to gather a mysterious sample from an abandoned research facility on the moon. Based on the 2014 short film ‘The Sea of Tranquility’, the show's premise centers around revealing secrets that had been kept hidden by government authorities for a long time.

The show seems to be a worthy addition to Korean shows like ‘Squid Game’ and ‘Hellbound’ which have already garnered universal acclaim. ‘Squid Game’ also received three Golden Globes nominations yesterday. The makers of ‘The Silent Sea’ can hope to get a rousing reception for this series as well, especially with its sci-fi trappings that is usually a hit with Netflix audiences across the world.

When does ‘The Silent Sea’ release and where can you watch it?

The upcoming sci-fi series will be premiering exclusively on Netflix on Friday, December 24. According to the Netflix press site, the Korean show will be available for streaming at 3:01 am EST. Viewers can download the app from Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store to watch the show.

What is ‘The Silent Sea’ all about

The official synopsis reads, “Set in a future Earth that has undergone desertification, ‘The Silent Sea’ is the story of the members of a special team sent to secure a mysterious sample from an abandoned research facility on the moon.”

Who stars in the upcoming Netflix Korean show?

The sci-fi show features a stellar cast and will reunite two actors from ‘Squid Game’.Gong Yoo and Heo Sung-Tae will be portray the characters of Han Yoon-Jae and Kim Jae-sun on the show while ‘The Host’ star Bae Doona will be seen playing Doctor Song Ji-an.

Gong Yoo

Born on July 10, 1970, Gong Yoo began his acting career in 2001 and did a number of supporting roles in dramas and movies. In 2008, he enrolled for the mandatory military service and ended it in December 2009. Since then, Yoo played lead roles in several TV shows such as ‘Hello My Teacher’, ‘One Fine Day’, ‘Coffee Prince’ and ‘Big’. However, he received worldwide recognition with ‘Train to Busan’.



 

The Netflix series ‘Squid Game’ took his popularity to a whole new level as an instantly recognized face across the world by any and all fans of the viral hit show.

Another actor on the show is Lee Moo-Saeng as Gong Soo-hyuk. 

Creators

The series has been directed by Choi Hang-yong while the show has been penned by Eunkyo Park. Meanwhile, Jung Woo-sung serves as an executive producer on the show.

The trailer teases that mankind is facing a lot of problems on planet Earth. However, a group of astronauts going to the Moon also face a lot of dangerous situations while extracting a mysterious sample from the research facility on the moon. Things quickly spiral, when the astronauts realize that something isn't right with the facility. Is someone else present with them? If yes, then how is the team gonna save themselves from the mysterious creature?
