MIAMI FLORIDA: Pablo Lyle was slapped with a five-year jail term for involuntary manslaughter in Miami in 2019. The Mexican actor had fatally punched a 63-year-old man during a road-rage altercation in Miami, Florida

The sentencing was announced on Friday, February 3, 2023, nearly four months after the 36-year-old Netflix and soap opera star was found guilty. Plea for a new trial was denied 2 months back

The sentencing was announced two months after Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez denied the actor's plea for a new trial and upheld the jury's guilty decision. Juan Ricardo Hernández Sr was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury following the fight with Mexican actor Pablo Lyle and died four days later while hospitalized, as per Daily Mail.

Pablo Lyle starred in 'Yankee,' a Netflix crime series

Mexican telenovela star who starred in "Yankee," a Netflix crime series, risked a maximum term of 15 years in jail. In addition to the five-year jail term, the actor was given 500 hours of community service, 500 hours of conflict resolution training, and an eight-year probationary period.

'I am very sorry'

"I am very sorry," Lyle said in Spanish, looking at some of the members of the Hernández family who were in the courtroom. "I always pray for him and for you, with all my heart," the outlet noted.

Lyle's defense argued that he punched Hernandez out of self-defense and thought the 63-year-old man could have been armed. Hernandez wasn't discovered with a weapon though, as per an ABC news report.

Hernandez's son asked for a maximum sentence for Lyle

Hernandez's son, Juan Ricardo Hernández Jr asked the judge to hand Lyle the maximum sentence of 15 years. He told the court that on the day his father died, he was with him. Furthermore, the victim's son said he had allegedly visited his father soon after he was taken to the hospital, where he died four days later.

'Nobody here is going to be satisfied'

Mercedes Arce, Juan Ricardo Hernández' fiance, reportedly said, “I know it wasn’t (Pablo Lyle's) intention to kill him, but anything can happen in a second. Every action has a consequence," she added while addressing the victim's family's request for the maximum sentence. “This is one of the most difficult determinations I’ve had to make. Nobody here is going to be satisfied. Nobody here is going to forget the pain this has caused,” she said.

'Pablo Lyle's sentence was a joke'

Soon after Lyle was sentenced to a five-year prison term, reactions started pouring in with users commenting, "Pablo Lyle's sentence was a joke. It should've been more years. He took another person's life because of his anger. I don't believe in his forgiveness." Another wrote, "Only five years doesn't quite seem like justice." One more wrote, "How is it involuntary he punched him did his hand accidentally fly up in the guy's face get in the way?"
