Spoilers for Season 12 Episode 2: 'War Crimes'

Intelligence analyst Nell's return on 'NCIS: Los Angeles' was a joyous affair. However, it also came with a not so appealing prospect: Hetty Lange was out. Or going AWOL for a while at least. And while fans are thrilled that Nell is back in the gig after her Hetty's suggested sabbatical over the summer, they are not too keen about seeing her as the new head boss of our beloved team of agents.

From Nell commanding a team of agents much older and more experienced than her to the fan-claimed "lazy, bad writing" of the episodes, viewers are far from pleased with this new season of 'NCIS: Los Angeles'.

The latest episode of 'NCIS: Los Angeles' titled 'War Crimes' saw Nell digging deep into the curious case of Thomas Argento — a war criminal who had been accused of killing an innocent, unarmed man during his deployment in Taliban. Sam and Callen had made the arrest and were less than thrilled when their prime witness lied about Argento's alleged crime and took the murder blame upon himself.

Later it was debunked that Argento had threatened another witness of his crime, Moffat, and to keep the other man and his family safe, Kendricks was lying in his testimony. Things ended the way they usually do for our agents and Sam and Callen were pulled out of the mess, thanks to Nell and Fatima's active digging. But that still wasn't enough to please fans.

Writing under recent tweets posted by the show's official account, a fan complained: "when do we get Hetty back. Nan (Nell) is not a good replacement, which is unwanted." Another chimed in: "I’m watching it and even though I love Nel, I believe she’s smart and brilliant working in Ops. I do not think she’s experienced enough, to be running a naval Office like Hetty did. It doesn’t feel right te bossing around people that are a lot older and more experienced than her."

Other fans got more aggressive with their critique of the show. "My god. Who the hell is writing this show anymore? Poor character and plot development, wasting time with bad slapstick comedy routines, no flow at all. Just lazy, bad writing. Do better."

While some called the replacement "That's pretty lame IMO. Nell is a really annoying character anymore," others explained their distaste is seeing Hetty replaced noting "It’s hard to see a character who’s played someone totally different in a past season, as someone else in this season...if that makes sense."

Some fans even quipped how Nell is getting 'too comfortable' in Hetty's seat at the headquarters, but most of them seem to be of the opinion that "It's like you all purposely dumbed down this show. The first two episodes of Season 12 were both absolutely awful."

'NCIS: Los Angeles' Season 12 airs on Sundays at 9 pm on CBS.
