Nacoe Ray Brown: Florida film producer who robbed bank to fund movie gets 10 years in prison
TAMPA, FLORIDA: Nacoe Ray Brown, 55, a Baltimore, Maryland resident has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a bank robbery to fund his movie. Brown was previously convicted of three bank robberies in Maryland and was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison in 2001. Brown pleaded guilty to recent charges on January 4, 2023.
However, due to worries about the pandemic in 2020, Brown was freed early on compassionate release grounds. The US Probation Office in Baltimore then took over the monitoring of Brown as he started his term of supervised release, the US Attorney's Office in the Middle District of Florida said in a press release.

Brown handed the teller a note stating that he had a pistol
While on vacation in Florida on June 28, 2022, Brown committed a robbery at the Belle Isle McCoy Federal Credit Union. Brown handed the teller a note stating that he had a pistol and demanded money while donning a baseball cap, sunglasses, surgical facemask, and plastic gloves. He stole $4,296 in cash and left the bank. During the robbery, Brown was seen by the teller as recorded by surveillance cameras.
Witnesses saw Brown leave the bank and go into a neighboring gas station, where he managed to change his clothes When the witness contacted the Belle Isle Police Department, they responded right away and managed to track down Brown at the hotel where he was staying. The demand note and the stolen money were found by police in Brown's backpack.
'He could not resist the demons'
They also found the disguise he had left behind in the gas station's restroom. When Brown was apprehended, he admitted to the police that he had robbed the bank because he was in Florida making a movie and was short on cash to cover costs, the US Attornyes office said. As per on report in Law&Crime, he also allegedly said that he robbed the bank because “he could not resist the demons,” and that it was the only way he knew how to make money.

One more user said, "For the love of art!" while another wrote, "Cassavetes took out mortgages on his house to fund his films. There’s no heart here, no drama, dumb, jail."
