Lifetime has a knack for creating engaging crime thrillers for its viewers and it has once again proved why people love to watch movies from the aforementioned genre. The network’s latest movie, titled ‘My Mom Made Me Do It’, has everything that a crime thriller should to keep the viewers at the edge of their seats.

The crime thriller revolves around Frida (Kate Drummond) who writes crime novels for a living and has written a few successful books. However, she’s having writer’s block for a few months and is unable to finish her latest book. As a result, her publisher is threatening to drop her and if that happens, she’ll be evicted from the house. She doesn’t want her daughter, Jade (Lizzie Boys), to know that because she has already taken a liking to this town and made it to school’s volleyball team.

However, everything changes when the entire school gets to know that Tian, one of Jade’s friends, was killed by an unknown man. They get the news during the party they had planned after winning the Volleyball Championship. Jade meets a guy named Rick (Tyson Arner) during the party who takes her home after the party. Although, she finds him creepy at first, but she starts liking him as the time passes. The premise mainly focuses on how Frida is getting stricter with Jade and does not allow her to go outside home after a certain time. Meanwhile, Jade has started lying to her mom in order to spend more time with Rick.

The movie’s slick storytelling is why it’s worth watching. Also, the complex relationship between a mother and a daughter is explored beautifully in the movie. A mother would go to any lengths to save her daughter and Frida is doing the same.

Kate Drummond as Frida in 'My Mom Made Me Do It' (Lifetime)

The movie does a really good job of telling us how a youngster’s mind is so fragile and he or she’ll do anything for anyone that will make them feel better. Why? Those people make them believe that they deserve more than what they have and force them to do things that they won’t do otherwise.

As far as acting is concerned, Kate Drummond is phenomenal as Frida. Her character is quite believable because that’s what parents go through when kids enter a certain age. They are rebellious and want to do things that make them feel good, even if they are dangerous. Drummond does an excellent job in the movie and it was amazing to see her evolve into a woman who wants to save her daughter at any cost.

Lizzie Boys as Jade in 'My Mom Made Me Do It' (Lifetime)

On the other hand, Lizzie Boys is brilliant as Jade. Her part required her to impersonate a girl who feels suffocated because her mother is overprotective and she did an excellent job in showing that. However, her character going out every night without her mother getting to know feels a bit over-the-top.

Tyson Arner, Kate Twa, and all the other actors are amazing as well.

All in all, ‘My Mom Made Me Do It’ is an entertaining watch that shocks you with a bonkers twist and smooth storytelling.
