'Mother Mary': Release date, plot, cast, and everything you need to know about the new comedy on Pop TV

Pop TV has announced the order of 'Mother Mary' pilot, a comedy with a modern twist to famous stories told. The pilot joins the network's already forward comedies 'Schitt's Creek', 'One day at a time' and 'Florida Girls.'

Release date

The release date is yet to be finalized, but the pilot is set to start shooting in February 2020.

Plot

The synopsis of the show talks about the questions 'Mother Mary' poses: 'What would happen in today’s world if the most irresponsible and lazy human on Earth was impregnated by immaculate conception? '

Justin Rosenblatt, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development, Pop TV said, "We think 'Mother Mary is a clever comedy that offers a lot of life lessons that are filled with heart through smart storytelling imparted through Betsy’s hilarious and irreverent sense of humor.” 

Cast

Betsy Sodaro stars as the modern version of Mary and Rachel Bloom will portray Christa Anton, the Mother of The Antichrist.

Rachel Leah Bloom is an American actress, singer, writer, and comedian. She is known for her role as Rebecca Bunch in 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend', a CW comedy-drama series. She went on to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical for her portrayal of the role. She's also set to play a voice role in DreamWorks’ Animation sequel 'Trolls World Tour'

Creators

Created by CBS Television Studios, the comedy is written by Casey Feigh ('What We Do in the Shadows'), Dan Gregor ('How I Met Your Mother')and Sodaro ('Disjointed'). Executive producers include Emmy and Golden Globe winner Bloom ('Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'), Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch of Jax Media (Broad City, Russian Doll, 'Florida Girls'), and Feigh, Gregor and Sodaro. Gregor will be directing the series. Feigh and Gregor had also previously written and produced a version of 'Mother Mary' in 2016 starring Sodaro and Drew Tarver.
