'Modern Family' Finale: Which of the Dunphy children will leave the nest first?

Although Alex has always been Claire and Phil's smartest and favorite kid owing to her independence, there was no dearth of love for Luke and Haley from their end

While the adults of 'Modern Family' entertained us for over a decade with their quirks and misadventures, the children of the hit sitcom had their own ways to keep us glued to the screen. We grew up with the characters who entered the series as children and went on to establish themselves in varied fields of life towards the end.

While we got to witness bare minimal developments in Lily Tucker-Pritchett (Aubrey Anderson Emmons) and Manny Delgado’s (Rico Rodriguez) story arc, the creators experimented the most with Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil Dunphy’s (Ty Burrell) three children.

Undeniably, the Dunphys being an oddball of a family, always saw themselves embroiled in chaos, but strongly held on to one another as a family even during some of the toughest times.

In the previous episodes of Season 11, when the members of the extended Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker family hinted at parting ways, the Dunphy children turned heads when they expressed their desire to walk individual paths.

However, before the empty nest syndrome could hit Claire and Phil hard, Alex Dunphy (Ariel Winter), who had taken up a job in a far off city, comes crawling back to her parents unable to deal with the demands of a corporate world.

Meanwhile, Luke Dunphy’s (Nolan Gould) big plans for a potential business continue to remain on paper as the episodes which came in after ‘The Last Christmas' barely saw him, let alone watch him turn an entrepreneur.

Meanwhile, despite wanting to establish herself in fashion, Haley Dunphy (Sarah Hyland) is seen living in her parents' basement with the twins and Dylan, as the series conveniently sidelined the much-anticipated development in her story arc.

Now that ‘Modern Family’ Season 11 is finally concluding, with nill hopes of it returning with yet another season, the creators have decided to add an edge to the ending by showing one of the Dunphy children finally moving out of their parents’ house.

The official synopsis for 'Modern Family' Season 11 Part 1 reads: "Mitchell and Cam settle into their new normal; Phil and Claire decide that one of the kids needs to move out; as Gloria becomes more successful at work, she notices Jay and the kids don't seem to need her as much."

Although Alex has always been Claire and Phil's smartest and favorite kid owing to her independence, there was no dearth of love for Luke and Haley from their end. While they wholeheartedly accepted Haley's teenage pregnancy, their patience with an ignorant Luke always remained intact.

However, now the time has come for them to part ways with the children and we can't help but wonder which one of the Dunphy kids will be seen moving out of their childhood home, which saw them grow up during the course of the series.

'Modern Family' Season 11 final airs on April 8 on ABC.
